This is a superb example of a 1973 Land Rover Series III 88”, finished in the classic Deep Bronze Green with Limestone hard top and wheels. It’s a lightweight-style configuration but retains its full civilian charm with a fully painted and cleaned chassis, solid bulkhead, and proper working mechanicals.
Condition:
This Series III is in fantastic shape for its age – the bodywork is straight with the expected light dings and small marks that speak to its honest character. Paintwork has a lovely even finish and isn’t hiding filler or bodges. The underside is solid: bulkhead and chassis are in excellent condition, recently inspected, with no welding required. Floorpans are strong. Rubber seals and door gaps are all good, with proper Series rattles to keep the experience authentic.
Interior:
The cabin has been sympathetically restored with new seat cushions in the front and rear, retaining the original utilitarian charm. The rear still has its twin bench seats intact and in excellent condition – perfect for throwing in gear, dogs, or kids. The dash is unmolested, and all gauges function correctly. Heater, lights, and wipers all work, and the vehicle benefits from a more recent indicator and light stalk assembly for improved usability.
Mechanical:
Starts reliably on the button – the 2. 25L petrol engine idles cleanly and pulls well through the gears. Gearbox is tight with good synchros, and the low-range/ 4WD selector functions correctly. Brakes have been recently checked and operate as they should. Clutch bite is strong. Tyres are in very good condition with a matching spare mounted on the bonnet for the full Series look.

This is a 52 year-old Land Rover, and while it’s in ready-to-use condition, it's still a classic. Steering has the expected play, and there's the occasional oil mark after a long run – nothing major, just part of the charm. Speedo needle is a bit wobbly. No MOT required due to historic vehicle status, but it would pass one if needed.

It’s a head-turner not because it’s flashy, but because it’s genuine. People smile when they see it – kids wave, dog walkers nod, and every old boy has a story about one “just like it.” The split-screen dash, exposed bolts, and utilitarian simplicity make it feel more like a mechanical companion than just a car.
My favourite thing? Flipping the windscreen vents open on a warm day and listening to the engine burble while you rumble along at 40mph – you can’t help but smile.
It’s tax and MOT exempt, ULEZ exempt, and appreciates every year. If you're looking for something to polish every weekend, look elsewhere. But if you want something you can jump into, use, and enjoy without worrying about door dings or computer diagnostics – this is your Landy.
