I am selling my 1998 Citroen XM due to a change in circumstances (we have just bought a narrowboat and apparently I have to whittle down my little fleet of 4 cars to make way for the new addition - according to the 'war office' :-(. )
My long term plan was to keep this car in storage (which it is in now) but to be fair I think it deserves to be driven and appreciated given its excellent condition.
It is the 3 litre V6 24 valve Exclusive model Automatic in Polar White first registered in February 1998, 5 previous keepers.
In 2013 the owner reversed the car into a bollard and the car was deemed 'uneconomical to repair' although it was just rear bumber and light damage in the low-speed bump. Regardless, the owner bought back the car from the insurance company and had the car repaired. Full photos of the minor damage and the repair including paperwork of the car being inspected and the repair validated with the DVLA after the repair are contained in a very hefty lever-arch file from the owner which also contains old invoices of work done over the years. The car is and was owned by Citroen Car Club member(s).
Work undertaken in the last 2 years include:
Engine service:
Oil and filter change
Fuel filter change
Air filter change
Cambelt, tensioners and water pump replaced
Auxillary drive belt
New spark plugs
Transmission:
Oil level checked - last changed 100369 miles.
Brakes:
Full strip. New pistons and seals. Fluid change (LHM)
New front discs and pads.
Parking brake linkage stripped cleaned and greased. New Left hand cable.
ABS relay replaced
New anti roll bar drop links. Complete LHM fluid change and filter clean.
Pump leak repaired - O ring.
Rear strut dust gaitor replaced
Underneath rust scraped, wire brushed, kurusted and waxoiled.
Both sills rear sections removed, replaced and treated. Inner sill sections welded.
New starter motor and battery.
Upgraded headlight bulbs fitted.
Paintwork power polished and waxed.
Interior is a lovely place to be and the seats are in excellent condition with no sign of wear. They are electric as are the windows and the front armrest also.
The car features the famous 13th window separating the boot from the interior and being the exclusive model the seats, door cards and steering wheel are also leather. The car comes with a working immobiliser.
There are some scratches to the driver's window caused by some metal rubbing on opening the window and if I was keeping the vehicle I would replace with new glass (easily obtained). There is of course central locking with 2 sets of keys provided: 1 remote blip key and one manual key. The passenger and rear offside door locks can be tempermental but can be opened manually if needed. I have a box of spares with the car including period correct mudflaps, door lock mechanisms and some spheres.
The last MOT was done in August 2024 with no advisories and has covered less than 1000 miles since then. A fresh MOT can be arranged for the new buyer if required.
So, in conclusion - if you are looking for a sensibly priced, sorted and beautiful looking XM in stunning white - you have found it.
