Description
This MGF is a Pre-production Press Car used by MG Rover as part of their press fleet in 1995.
It has a low double digit vin number and comes complete with several magazines containing the contemporary road tests the car was used in back in the day.
Not only is this a genuine factory press car but the only other previous keeper, prior to my ownership, was a well known MGF specialist tuning company, Tech-speed Motorsport.
It was acquired by Tech-speed directly from MG Rover as they wanted to build a demonstration vehicle to showcase the various upgrades they developed to enhance performance and handling. Tech-speed were involved in building some of the original race cars for the "MGF Trophy Cup" series of races.
Consequently this car has sought after period Tech-speed upgrades including:
1. 8i engine with TF135 heads
Close ratio gearbox with Limited Slip Differential
Solid sub-frame mounts
16" Abingdon Cup Alloy wheels with AP developed 4-pot brakes
Bilstein dampers
ITG air filter system
Camber rear suspension arms
Quick ratio steering rack
Lowered knuckles
Tech-speed developed modified gear linkage
Trophy Cup exhaust
The hardtop along with the front/ rear spoiler/ splitters are no longer fitted to the car.
I have owned the car for the last 11 years and my collection of cars is being reduced. This is a unique opportunity to acquire not only a genuine pre-production press car but one with significant history following on from its factory ownership.
A new owner could chose between returning to standard MGF 1. 8i press car specification or keep the upgrades as part of the cars evolution and history. The car definitely demonstrates just how much tuning potential was waiting to be exploited.
The car is currently in storage so the photo I have used is from when I bought the car in 2014.
It will require some TLC and recommissioning along with collection on a trailer.
Although the engine has been run periodically I am reluctant to start it again without a thorough engine service if only because the cambelt should be changed as a precaution.
