Time has come to sell Ruby our 1974 Devon Poptop Camper after 14 years of happy use. Personal circumstances have changed and it is time to let someone else enjoy her. Came into our ownership in 2010 when we lived in Scotland.

The brakes were refurbished in 2021 by a local VW specialist which included new front calipers, hoses, backing plates cylinders and shoes. At the same time twin carbs were balanced, valves adjusted and timing adjusted.

Reconditioned engine with clutch installed in 2017 after original popped a valve on the M74 in 2015.
Engine with all paperwork purchased from MorkC68 on the Late bay.
Engine specs are;
Remtec motor 1641ccStreet Power 1
Cam is a Scat C25

Paintwork was originally all over vw pastel white but previous owner had lower half respray in vw tornado red to a good standard. Straight bodywork with good door fit and panel alignment.
Rear corners, drivers side sill, age appropriate replacement engine hatch and lower half respray done in 2013 by professional.
New front and sliding door seals

All cavities and the underside have been treated with Dinitrol wax/ schutz.

The camping interior has received some later additions and is ready for camping trips
The bed panels and box have all been replaced with good quality oak faced ply.

The rear seat/ bed pads have been replaced with new upholstery grade foam and covers, floor covered with multi colour stripe vinyl all the flooring is in good condition. Curtains are slightly faded but perfectly usable.
Front seats are original stone colour basket weave with Securon replacement inertia reel seatbelts, all the upholstery and door cards are in good original condition.
The pop-top had a replacement cap by the previous owner.

Gas stove with Camping Gaz 607 cylinder, sink with electric tap, various cupboards of original Devon pattern and original Devon leg table.
Lighting updated with LED’s
Securon lap belt fitted in the rear for an extra passenger.
Split charge fitted with 12v socket.

The sills are sound as generally are the wheel arches, there is some slight bubbling in a couple places, but otherwise is sound for a bus of this age.
I have no knowledge of what body work was done prior to purchase in 2010. The gutters are all very solid.
The painted steel wheels are in good shape, tyres are commercial rated and have decent tread and are complete with hub caps.

Engine starts easily and runs well, all fuel lines renewed to E10 standard.
The original tatty Devon rear seats are available if wanted plus a range of gaskets, oil etc. Ruby is relatively unmolested but has plenty of scope to make your own statement or return to original. Work has been undertaken to maintain and upgrade the interior, mechanics and bodywork and is a very usable example. If you’re looking for a vehicle to take holidaying when the summer arrives, this Type 2 would be a great choice.

The Devon set up is really practical and is good for both wild stop overs or on sites. There is included a propex heater that whilst a bit noisy gets things toasty on a cold evening. We used her a lot when living in Scotland for short and longer trips around the highlands. Our lifestyle has changed and she just isn't getting used or enjoyed as she should.
