Description
I bought this car as a non runner. It had been used for the wedding of the previous owners daughter in 1989, put Into a leaky shed and not turned a wheel since that day. The shed had partly collapsed and subsequently the body suffered 30+ years of neglect. The car was also used for target practice by the local gangsters (kids) for their air rifles.
I got the car home and set about seeing if it would run in any sense of the word. The dealers I bought it from had managed to unseize the motor and within an hour or so the engine was running like a watch.
Over the next year I replaced various rotted wood including the running board carriers and boot compartment linings etc all done with the correct oak or ash as required. The floor boardings were originally plywood and had in the most part de-laminated so these were replaced with marine grade ply to exact copies of the originals.
Whilst doing the above works the car was being run daily so I found other work to do, chief of which was removal and cleaning of the fuel tank, (what a job) which after 3 weeks of constant work finally became clean.
We have since used the car many times in local Rolls Royce and Maidstone Historic Vehicle Club outings and it has not let us down.
The car is much admired as a true survivor and judging by the way it runs, should do another 90 years of splendid service.
I am selling as I have another 20/ 25 that was worse than this car and I have run out of money for the ongoing restoration.
Having brought the Rolls back to life I would love to have someone buy it with a view to keeping it as is or to restore it. It has a beautiful body shape and line with trousers crease wings, louvred bonnet etc and whilst still in my view a really handsome motor car, it would be spectacular if restored. Quiet, smooth and original. All the electrics came back to life after the 30 year hiatus in its history, which is pretty unbelievable considering the state of everything when I bought the car.
