The 20/ 25 is a saloon car built by Rolls-Royce from 1929 to 1936. It succeeded the Twenty.
Originally it had been designed to be driven by the owner, but many examples were later driven by chauffeurs.
The engine was similar to the six-cylinder fitted to the Twenty. Displacement, compared with that model, was increased to 3699 cc. The bore was increased to 82 mm from 76 mm of the cited model, while the stroke was not modified and remained at 114 mm. The powerplant was equipped with a single carburettor, and the ignition was via coil and magneto. The gearbox was four-speed with the gear lever to the right of the driver; from 1932 a synchronised gearbox was fitted for third and fourth gears.
The suspension consisted of semi-elliptic leaf springs on both axles, four-wheel brakes assisted by a mechanical servo. The handbrake, a separate system, acted only on the rear wheels. The model wore the famous radiator with a triangular top and vertical slats. In early examples the radiator grilles were operated manually by a lever on the dashboard. This was used to vary the amount of air flowing to the radiator. Later examples had an automatic device consisting of a thermostat.
Thanks to the larger powerplant compared with that fitted to the Twenty, the car could reach a top speed of 121 km/ h. Many owners heavy-bodied the coachwork to make it more luxurious; the consequence was a loss of performance.
