For Sale: 1970 Triumph Spitfire Mk3 1300 – Beautifully Restored Classic
Up for sale is my cherished 1970 Spitfire Mk3 1300, a car that has brought me and my family countless smiles and memorable drives. It has undergone an extensive restoration over the years, and I have receipts to show for much of the work – far too many to list fully here, but I’d be happy to share them with any serious buyer.
Key Highlights of the Restoration:
Brand new rear quarter panels
New door skins
Engine rebuilt with hardened valve seats (suitable for unleaded fuel)
Brake booster fitted
Adjustable shock absorbers
Replaced lower control arm
Hazard light added
Additional front lights for improved visibility
Steel removable hardtop
Speaker and stereo wiring installed (though unused in my ownership)
Dual centre exit exhaust – sounds fantastic
Chassis undersealed for added protection
I also have the Workshop and Haynes manuals as well as several basic spares
The car starts on the key, even after sitting for weeks – it runs strong and reliably. The engine pulls beautifully and paired with that throaty dual exhaust, it delivers a proper driving soundtrack (video available).
I’m a lover of all things classic – from British roadsters to American muscle – and I can honestly say that these little British sports cars deliver a driving experience like no other. They’re light, nimble, and full of character. Even when you're not going fast, it feels like you are – and that, to me, is the magic of driving.
Sure, American classics have their own appeal – big V8s, dramatic styling, and effortless cruising – but for sheer joy on a twisty backroad, this Spitfire wins every time. It’s like a playful puppy, always eager to go for a run.
My kids adore riding in it – nothing beats the grin it puts on their faces.
The Reality:
This is not a concours trailer queen, nor is it meant to be. It’s a 55-year-old car with some blemishes on the paintwork such as chips and scratches as well as some little flaking areas where the new panels were not primed perfectly these gave been touched up so for full transparency, but it does present well and could be brought to show-standard easily by a decent body shop if that’s your goal. For me, it’s about the joy of driving, not chasing trophies.
In my view, the Mk2 and Mk3 Spitfires are the best-looking of the bunch – far more elegant and desirable than the later Mk4s. And while the 1. 3-litre engine might sound small on paper, it’s more than enough for a car this light.
Why Am I Selling?
It’s time for a change plus I have over extended and ended up with 2 classics which I always tell the Wife are my savings pot – this time possibly an American RV to explore a different kind of motoring adventure. So, I’m letting this Spitfire go to its next home.
Come See It!
I’m based in the Midlands, not far from Silverstone. If you’re genuinely interested, come round – I’ll take you for a drive and show you just how special this little car is.
Open to sensible offers – but once you see it in person, I think you’ll understand the value.
Thanks for reading.
