Description
I bought the R100R in Dec 2018 and it was converted by Side Rock Cycles in Poole into a Street Scrambler in 2019 (see their website for a description). It is therefore in excellent condition having only done approx 4500mi since the build.
I have a more detailed description of all the work done and components used. In summary; the bike was completely stripped, and rebuild with the engine, gearbox and drivetrain serviced. De-tabbed frame, engine, gearbox, swingarm, rear subframe, etc were powder coated, with the tank mudguards and number boards painted in Caspian Blue by Wicket Coatings in Poole.
Some of the key changes made; Bike raised slightly to give it a bit more off-road stance, using R100GS spec Bitubo rear shock and R1100GS front rim. Engine now incl high compression Omega pistons, Mikuni carbs with Ram air filters and Boyer Bransden electronic ignition system. Modern electronics were fitted via a Motogadget M. unit wiring loom, switches and LED Indicators and lights. The FatBar handlebars were fitted to a bespoke billet top yoke, that also holds the Acewell speedo/ tacho and Motogadget glassless bar end mirrors.
To summarise, the best components were used, with the build done to the highest of standards.
Since then, the bike has been serviced annually, with the latest a Major Service in Apr 25. The bike comes with an MOT as at Apr 25.
I'll provide the extensive history I received on purchase and that I compiled during the time I thoroughly enjoyed her.
The Bike will be sold as seen and happy to answer any follow-on questions. I’m only after serious buyers please. Also, I don’t have the ability to ship the bike, thus it will need to be collected from Bristol area.
. I bought this bike specifically as a project, with the BMW airhead lending itself so perfectly for customisation and a minimalist design. I wanted to keep to the original soul of the bike, thus many original parts were retained, incl the large fuel tank the R100R share with its off-road cousin the GS.
She is therefore unique.
As mentioned, the build details can be found on Side Rock Cycles' website, but the bike-build also featured as an article in Pipe Burn magazine. I have also been fortunate for it to win 'bike of the night' at a few local bike meets.
What do I love about her - well her character. Even with off-road orientated tyres and a higher seat height, her handling is lovely, still so close to her road roots. She has a nice bit of oomph with lovely sharp brakes. The modern electronics and lights give an updated subtle charm to her. On top of that I find her easy to maintain and look after, with support easily found from Pete at SRC or via the friendly Airheads community.
