1985 Polo C – genuine 32K miles from new
Bought new by a university lecturer to drive to work, who soon got a new job so he used the bus instead and the Polo sat in his garage for years, rarely being used.
He later sold it to a VW dealership who kept it in their showroom along with other classic vehicles.
Bought by myself in summer 2023 from a private buyer who’d bought it from the garage but been too scared to use it in case the miles went up!
After I bought it my local classic car garage (QPREP, Oundle) stripped and rebuilt the carb, replaced all the pipes and filter, plus replaced all ignition components, with the result it’s super smooth running. Starts first time every time.
They also replaced the fuel tank as the old tank filler leaked fumes, and I replaced the front tyres for quality ones.
Amazingly the brakes work well, in contrast to the Mk1/ 2 Polo reputation for poor non-servo brake performance.
I also had a body shop remove the windscreen to treat a small area in the bodywork corner.
The battery well had a small rust hole (common problem), so a new bottom plate was welded in and rustproofed.
New screen rubber and new windscreen fitted.
After the above works I drove her to Brittany via Plymouth (a 600 mile round trip), and she didn’t miss a beat – and still continues to drive smooth as clockwork.
Everything is original apart from the usual mechanical bits as above.
The interior is unmarked, no stains, rips or tears.
The bodywork/ paintwork is fantastic too.
Everything works, although in those days there wasn’t much to go wrong!
She’s had years of impeccable MOTs, and with my love and care as well as being garaged, she’s in fantastic shape!
This is pure and simple motoring - I love driving her – but sadly I need to let her go to another home as I need the space in the garage.
If you think you can find a better Polo of this age then go ahead and buy it, because I believe mine is top of the pile!

Phil, the details belowWe had two polo's when my kids were young, and my late wife really enjoyed driving round in them.
I bought this because I love old VW's and this is a fabulous example of the Mk2 Polo, and drives so nicely.
The classic car garage who did the work on it rate this car indeed, and said it's the best they seen for years.
