Not the average MG Midget - This 1979 1500 cc was originally exported by MG as a right-hand drive model but with the improved specification as fitted to USA export cars. And as can be seen from the Photographs is in a beautiful condition. Why a Californian would order a right hand drive is unclear.
Just to confirm It is now and has always been a right hand drive version and has not been converted from USA specification
Now with UK Spec. Twin SU Carbs.
It spent its early years in the sunny conditions of California. ( Proof of USA ownership and USA Insurance comes with the car.)
Then in the early 1990s the car was returned to the UK and correct registered with the DVLA, documents of such are present with the car.
The car has the following USA Specification:
Wooden Dashboard.
Wooden Door Capping's.
Small in Dash Glove box.
Below Dash Large Lockable Storage Locker.
Three Windscreen Wipers.
Larger Rear Lights.
Extra Side Chrome Trim.
Stainless Steel Boot Mounted Luggage Rack.
It also has the original jack.
Also a period Radio Cassette. (I have no way to test the cassette player)
Two Period Spot Lights (Not wired up).
Originally a rubber bumper model and at some stage converted to Chrome Bumpers.
I have only very recently purchased the car, and unfortunately, I did not factor in my old legs and mobility, which has made the car uncomfortable for me to drive. So have now reluctantly decided to offer it to someone else to enjoy now in time for some Summer fun.
Thanks, no doubt to its initial location in California, the car shows no obvious signs of corrosion under the car. The car has been repainted in some time in its past and is correctly registered as Red (I believe it to be Chrry Red Metallic ). As can be seen from the photographs the paintwork is in excellent condition.
The interior is in grey leather with blue piping to the seats and matching grey door cars and interior panels.
The wooden dashboard is in good condition. A leather covered Mota-Lita Steering Wheel is fitted.
There are four “Minilite” Style Alloy wheels in good condition plus a spare “Rostyle” wheel.
There is a Tonneau Cover and Hood both in Vinyl.
The engine bay is a delight with good paint finish plus a new Alloy Rocker Cover plus Stainless-Steel Radiator Cover and Fan Guard with a Laser Cut “MG” Logo.
The previous owner informed me that in July 2024, approximately 200 miles ago the car had a service which included the following (Invoice available)
Oil flush and New Oil and Filter.
Coolant flush
New air filters
Gearbox oil change
Rear diff oil change
Brake fluid change
Front and rear brake service
New HT leads fitted
Points gapped
New spark plugs
Tappers checked and adjusted
Grease points serviced
Battery isolator fitted.
New Clutch Master Cylinder
I have also fitted a new coil as the original one had corroded terminals, also a new Interior Courtesy Light, plus the Alloy Rocker Cover and Stainless-Steel Radiator Covers as already mentioned.
There is also a New Spare Fan Belt and and old Haynes Manual.
The Car is correctly registered as Historic and thus exempt from Road Tax and MOT Testing.
The V5c is present and in my name.
