Description
I am selling my beloved MG Midget, 1500cc, 1979.
I have owned this car for the last 2 and a half years, and myself and my partner have carried out a lot of work and maintenance tasks to this car (please see below for the list). I am only selling now as we are buying our first home, which is super exciting, but we no longer have a garage. This car has been dry stored for over 20 years of its life (according to the previous owner who owned the car for the 16 years before me), and I don’t want to be the owner that leaves it outside to get wet!!
The car is currently under a waterproof cover and I routinely air out the vehicle and shake and dry the cover. However great this is, it really needs a dry and warm home to be in. It has only been living out of a roofed accommodation since late August.
This MG midget is a late 1979 vehicle (October registered). It was originally a Pagent or Rivera Blue. It was then repainted by the previous owner to British Racing Green. It still sports its original rubber bumper and Rostyle wheels.
This vehicle comes with a hardtop which seems to be an original due to the date that can be worked out via the markings on the Triple X glass. The hardtop itself is pretty clean and sturdy. There are minor damages to it such as scratches, scuffs, and the odd chipping around the bottom edge, but nothing major. For added fun information about when this hardtop was likely manufactured, see this webpage which I found useful: - details above.
I can provide further images of the vehicles soft top, but it is all there and works perfectly well. There is some fraying to the edges which I will capture soon and post also. I also have the tonneau cover for the folded soft top and the tonneau cover for the full car.
Here is a list of the work we have carried out on this car:
- Reconditioned Gearbox Installed
- Replaced Exhaust Manifold
- Replaced Inlet Manifold
- New Clutch and Clutch Plate
- New Starter Motor
- New Fuel Pump
- New Radiator
- New Thermostat
- New Brass Thermostat Filler Plug
- New Coolant Hoses Throughout
- New Slave Cylinder
- New Clutch Hydraulic Pipe
- New Ignition Leads
- New Carb Springs
- New Choke Cable
- New Air Filters
- New Seatbelts
- Variety of New Gaskets: Sump; Carb; Inlet & Exhaust Manifolds, Thermostat, etc.
- All fluids replenished: Engine oil; Gearbox oil; Coolant; Brake fluid, etc.
That more than likely is not the full list and I’m sure I’ll find more receipts as I go. It’s been expensive and a little tedious but most bolts, washers and nuts I touched also got renewed too. I have basically replaced most items on this car, and what I haven’t replaced, the previous owner most certainly did. Between us there is an extensive amount of paperwork that comes with this vehicle. Working on this car has been a genuine delight. All work has been done properly, thoroughly and to specifications detailed in working documentation. Myself and my partner also both hold mechanical and electrical trades to put minds at ease.
The car runs and drives beautifully. When we moved from Cambridge to Horsham, we drove it 120 miles down the country and it carried out the task effortlessly without fault or flutter.
I honestly have loved and enjoyed this car so incredibly much and I am truly gutted to let him go. Hopefully whoever becomes the new owner of my adored MG will continue to love and adventure in him making so many amazing memories along the way.
Any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask. I have loads of pictures of the work we’ve done and I’ll get some more updated images too in the bright sunshine (fingers crossed).
The price here is £4, 500. It is negotiable. Please do come and see the car first though before trying to haggle the price. I believe this is a fair price for the condition of the vehicle and the work carried out.
Thank you for taking the time to read my ad and I hope you are as keen as I was to view this MG Midget. Thank you. We have enjoyed working on this car and learning every little nook and cranny and quirk. If you are into tinkering, this is most certainly the car for you. Likewise, we have equally enjoyed driving it. This car is so fun to drive and we just love a sunny drive to literally any direction for any amount of time. I will really miss my MG but a new house has forced my hand. I really can’t wait to meet the MG’s new owner and hope he is in capable and loving hands. We have loved this car so so much. I hope you love Francis too! (His name).
