Description
Peugeot 205 XS
1. 4 Twin Choke TU3S Engine
Reluctantly selling this project, though it's 90% done, running well with MOT and lots of new parts, engine has been painstakingly cleaned up and tuned, it's running very nicely!
Needs a few bits to make perfect or drive as is.
Main issue is drivers door is dented, various dings and scratches, faded paint etc..
really could do with a re-spray.
Suspension:
What’s been sorted / new parts:
Top mounts
bump stops
bearings
Strut boots
Cleaned up shocks and spring
Inner and outer cv boots
Front brake callipers , pads and discs
Brake master cylinder
brake fluid
New tyres all round
Wheel alignment
Anti roll bar bushes
New Tyres
What needs doing:
Recently developed a squeaky rear end over bumps. undiagnosed
Thoughts - might just be bushes / rubber trim / shocks, however given age - rear beam is likely due a rebuild, feels fine to drive, just a bit annoying on bad road surfaces.
Engine
A lot of work over the last year, but it’s fast now!
What’s been sorted / new parts:
new intake manifold and gaskets
New exhaust manifold and gaskets
All engine mounts (Baker BM fast road spec)
Main Timing belt
Accessory belt
Water pump
Oil change
Oil filter
Tappets gaps checked and adjusted
Carb removed, cleaned and rebuilt with kit
spark plugs - correctly gapped
Distributor cap and arm
Ht leads
Coil pack
Fuel filter
Fuel hoses
Timing set to factory specs with timing light gun
Idle mixture adjusted
New manifold to intake hose
Heat painted manifold cover
Engine bay steam cleaned
What needs doing:
occasional low knocking or popping during idle recently started
undiagnosed - goes away at higher revs.
Transmission:
What’s been sorted / new parts:
New driveshafts and seals
New Transmission mount
Fluid change - Redline RT90
PugRacing stainless steel gear selector rods - complete set.
Baker BM Gear pivot bushings
Baker BM Bronze Shifter Bushes
Shifts through all gears smoothly, good solid biting point (no vibration) totally drivable
What needs doing:
Clutch release bearing recently started to whine whilst in neutral
5th gear synchro whine
interior fan blower motor makes a noise, i took it out and tested it and it was silent, so i think it's rubbing on some plastic inside the dash, or possibly a bearing playing up once fitted at correct angle.
hopefully easy enough to sort.
Interior:
What’s been sorted / new parts:
Very good seats, complete, no rips, no broken foam.
Sourced new pop up coin tray for top of dash, this has sadly slightly misshapen from the sun.
Drivers seat original xs foam and fabric
Passenger front seat foam
New boot struts
Sourced parcel shelf
What needs doing:
Door bins have been removed as both had holes in them.
Central locking removed - appeared to be faulty.
N/ S Rear door card has water damage, misshapen.
Electrics / Other:
What’s been sorted / new parts:
New fuse board
New horn
New side light sockets
New front lower driving lights
refurbed windscreen wiper pivots
rear water jet and hoses
rear screen heater element wiring
Exterior:
Paint overall has faded, should be black gloss but it’s lost its shine.
Not original boot, had already been painted black when I got the car, Not a terrible job but you can see red on the inside, plastic trim is missing, no key for the boot so getting the central locking working might be the answer to that one..
I fitted correct XS badge
Front bumper is good, rear bumper has a small crack on the corner
drivers door has been dented, various scuffs, dings, paint crack around the car,
the rest could probably be sorted by a good dent guy, or some filler and paint, looks ok from a distance!
Bonnet - again paint and finish not great, looks like there’s a bit of a ding bottom right above the headlight, not very obvious.
Sunroof, all working, good seal, no leaks. I replaced the handle bolts / grommets with Baker BM re-issues, the suction / seal works perfectly, as does the interior sliding cover.
Steel wheels - they could do with a refurb, or at least another going over with some sand paper and silver paint.
there’s some surface rust appearing here and there, looking their age from the inside, but thankfully not at all visible unless you’re under the car. they balanced fine when I put new tyres on them. One wheel is a slightly different silver paint, I was planning on taking them off and getting them stripped and painted properly.
If you're looking for a 205 XS and don't mind a bit of a project then here you go! I've got a box of spares, some XS seat fabric, a brand new back box and various parts that'll come with the car. happy to answer any questions, It's the legendary 205 XS from 1990! and I'll regret selling it.
