Description
Original Volkswagen “Oval” from January 1957
This VW 1/ 11 with chassis number 1-1404896 in the Agave green color with a red interior was built in the first week of 1957 for export to Sweden.
Importer AB Scania-Vabis from Södertälje issued a certificate of conformity for this VW Limousine on January 17, 1957. It stated, among other things, that a 30 hp engine was installed.
Just a short time later, on Monday, January 21, 1957, the 100, 000th Volkswagen destined for Sweden arrived at the port of Stockholm!
This green Beetle with an oval rear window was destined for a customer in Kalmar and was transported there by car transporter. Delivery took place on March 1, 1957, by VW dealer Rydsberg Motor.
The VW was registered with the license plate H 32507. In the late 1960s, Sweden introduced new license plate series, and the car was issued the new number FZU 527.
The VW drove an average of 4, 000 km per year, sometimes a few thousand more. In September 1975, the odometer had just passed 60, 000 km. By the end of 1980, now 24 years old, the odometer hit 90, 000 km. It is believed that it was driven by the same owner for about 30 years until the mid-1980s, with a final mileage of 106, 000 km. It was inspected annually during this time. Afterward, the oval Beetle was neatly stored away.
Around 2019, it came back to life and was sold to enthusiasts in France. There, it was fully restored technically, ready to hit the road again.
In late September 2019, the green oval Beetle was brought to the Netherlands, where it was successfully registered with the Dutch RdW.
This pure, unrestored Oval is for sale!

Volkswagen’s Swedish success story
After Pon became Volkswagen’s first importer, Belgium, Switzerland, and Sweden followed as the fourth country. On June 10, 1948, the truck manufacturer AB Scania-Vabis from Södertälje signed a contract for this purpose.
AB Scania-Vabis was particularly successful in selling Volkswagens. Within a few years, it became the market leader, far ahead of other brands. This lasted until 1962, after which the Volvo “Amazon” became the best-selling car in Sweden.
New Volkswagens were transported from the Wolfsburg factory by train to the port of Lübeck. They were then shipped to the port of Stockholm, and from there transported by train again to the storage facility in Södertälje.
From 1954 onwards, AB Scania-Vabis imported more than 14, 000 VWs annually, including this particular example. This success was further encouraged by a promotional campaign with a prize for anyone who could demonstrate driving over 100, 000 km with the same engine.
The number of winners exceeded all expectations!
Although Sweden drove on the left until September 3, 1967, almost all imported cars had the steering wheel on the left-hand side.
