For Sale is my 1995 TVR Chimaera 4. 0 HC, with just 46, 000 miles, this TVR has had a body off restoration and drives as if new. Unfortunately, as I have gone to list this car on another site I have discovered it is CAT C as of 03/ 2005, the amount of work has negated this category but is reflected in the price, No expense has been spared on mechanicals and suspension. The vehicle has been in the family for 15+ years. I became the owner of this TVR in 2019 and it became apparent due to sitting for some time it needed repairs.
Engine/ Gearbox – The engine has had a head off inspection, due to the common camshaft fault with these rover V8s, and where this car has sat, it became apparent we had a worn cam lobe. Subsequently the engine has had a new Kent camshaft, lifters and all accompanying gaskets; Head gasket, intake gasket, rocker covers, front cover seal etc… It has also had a new timing chain with vernier gear. Every sensor for the ecu and the gauges are new also. Aswell as exhaust manifold gaskets, engine mounts, gearbox mounts, gear linkage bushes resulting in a fantastic driving experience. The list does continue, and I can provide more information on request. A completely new ignition has also been fitted, distributor including cap and rotor arm, HT leads and recommended hotter specification spark plugs. A new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing has been installed too.
Chassis/ Suspension – It became apparent the chassis has been poorly bodged on the outriggers, the body has been removed, new outriggers fitted and repairs to body mounts where threads had been subject to the elements. The entire chassis was sandblasted and painted with Epoxy Mastic 121 to reduce paint cracking under flexing that occurs with powder coat. New tubular front wishbones have been fitted with new bushes on all 4 corners of the car and brand-new ball joints, uprated ARB bushes with new drop links. All rubbers under the car have been replaced. Creating an amazing, tight road feel. New inner and outer tie rods have been fitted.
Brakes, Pedal box and Steering – Due to sitting, I wasn’t confident leaving the old brake hard line and calipers as I could see in the long term these causing issues. The braking system has had a complete overhaul. New calipers and carriers all round, with fresh discs and pads. HEL braided stainless steel soft lines and a new hardline brake line kit from Racetech. After fitting all these components, I noticed the brake servo seals had perished and the servo itself was rusted and holed. This is a common failure point which can be costly due to pedal box removal etc… Subsequently, the pedal box was removed, new servo, master cylinder and intermediate brake lines where fitted. I noticed the pedal box itself was slightly corroded, this was cut and repaired as OE with sheet steel and TIG welded. Whilst this was out, the clutch master was changed, and everything was refitted.
Interior – Sitting for some time, the interior had become quite tired, this paired with the body removal, I have opted for a new, high quality carpet kit for the car. This is in fantastic condition and new sound deadening/ underlay has been fitted underfoot, as factory would have. Replacement seats from another chimaera have been installed with TVR embroidered headrests, reupholstered centre console and dash top as well. This was to replace tired original vinyl, this has been upholstered in black to reduce the glare on the windscreen whilst driving and gives great contrast of colour in my opinion to the original complete cream interior. A new stereo and high-quality speakers have been fitted with Bluetooth capability. A manual boot release has been fitted seamlessly under the driver’s seat to replace the original electric boot pop for reliability.
Bodywork – This chimaera has good paint, the car does have some stone chips, the paint still has some good shine to it, as seen in photos. Its 30 years old, so some blemishes are present. The bonnet has been painted and the front bumper section, as some fiberglass repair was required. This was completed using high strength glass mat and resin. Utilising boat building/ repair techniques.
I have over 1000 photos of the rebuild of this car, not a single bolt has been untouched. The list of parts is not limited to what as been mentioned. Fantastic drivers car, looks amazing. The sound is incredible. Sadly I have to let it go to get on the property ladder.
