Description

Genuine 1980 Triumph TR8 Convertible for sale. 35, 000 original miles. Stromberg Carburettors, persian aqua with blue check interior. All original paint. Top and tonneau also original except the rear windows were replaced.

The history of the car is;

1st owner purchased the TR8 in 1980 (dispatched to USA 27th June)

2nd owner Rosemary Harrington 07/ 04/ 1981 at 12, 415 miles,
Used until 1994 and 34, 665 miles

3rd owner, a friend of mine in the US - Estate Sale 28/ 04/ 2016

4th owner me 12/ 3/ 2022 34, 695 miles

The car had been sitting since 1994, the 3rd owner got it running and did extensive mechanical work to it. Flushed fuel system, new ball joints, front suspension bushings, slave master, transmission shifter bushings, steering column bushing, new high torque starter motor. Original air pump is still in place. He knew I was looking for an original TR8 so I imported it in 2022 and the mileage now reads 35, 396.

I am the first registered UK owner and the car is correctly registered as a 1980 TR8, tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt.

It wasn’t running perfectly when it arrived, so my mechanic has been improving it over the last couple of years. Work includes;

remove old Cat downpipes, replace with Rimmer non Cat pipes
carb rebuild
flush tank again
rear brake rebuild
tracking
front brake and suspension overhaul
reconditioned alternator
fit new period-type correct Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tyres from Longstone (not cheap)
various wiring corrections and improvements
fit electronic ignition, coil
refurb wheels
plus many more minor items

The aim has always to keep the car original whilst being useable – all the old pipes, electrics, starter motor, spare water chokes etc etc come with the car. I have basically spent over £6k keeping the car original ! All receipts are in the file.

Car now drives great, everything works and is fully turnkey. It is completely original underneath, absolutely rust free and never welded, all the correct rivet holes are in place and you can still see the (minimal) factory underseal. No cracks in the dash and no wear on the carpets. A true ‘survivor’ car as the US would say.

The paint is all original and in nice condition. There are a few blemishes as you would expect. The body has picked up a few dings from its time in storage. I’m sure a bodywork guy can correct them without disturbing the paint, its never bothered me.

There is a tear in the drivers seat, which looks repairable the seat itself is fine. I have a full set of blue tartan seat covers in the spares package including a nice backrest if needed.

Comes with bills and some older paperwork, V5 in my name, heritage certificate and workshop manual. Happy to supply walkround videos via whatsapp
