including this lovely VW Golf GTi mk2 big bumper edition… I’m assuming it’s one of the last ones, but most importantly, it is completely unmolested and any modifications are tasteful and allow the car to retain its originality in every way.
It is serviced to the max, fully stamped up and is fully available to use daily. Long advisory free mot, VERY LOW ownership and actually quite good miles, at 143k. Metallic black with grey interior. Worth noting, and the reason I was drawn to it, it made a road trip in 2024 to Italy and back, without missing a single beat!! That’s says a lot already.
EXTERIOR:
A lovely looking car, shiny paint with good BBS alloys and very new matching Toyo tyres all round… I have just updated the rear lights to the much nicer crystal ones and fitted expensive led bulbs into the indicators, brakes and reverse sockets (£150 worth). Now you can be seen!
There’s some very minor bubbling to both lower rear doors, but otherwise it’s generally free of rust. All the panels line up, no adverse history and it has a working sunroof. The car appears to have been parked by somebody rollering their house with paint… ideally, a claybar polish would bring it back to full glory. The yellow film on the headlights peels off if you prefer, I just installed all 3 wipers with aero blades too.
INTERIOR:
Absolutely spotless inside!! Time warped and all original, with no wearing to the seats, bolsters, carpets or dashboard. Has front electric windows, winding sunroof, recently had a new headliner fitted professionally and all the gauges work perfectly… well, the digital clock is hard to change the time, probably need to disconnect and reconnect the battery at midnight to set it correctly! A lovely car to be inside and a credit to the few previous owners!
MECHANICS:
The car springs to life on the first crank, has that lovely 1. 8 deep note, from the standard exhaust system and drives equally as good as it looks! Cambelt was done in 2023, it is mechanically sound and VERY reliable! Clutch and gearbox are effortless, I just had the brake fluid flushed and changed, a new master cylinder, rear brake caliper fitted and both top strut mounts done on the front, costing £400. I think there’s still scope to improve the braking, but it is on all standard equipment and hasn’t had any upgrades. All works though and is certainly a good one!
Just had a coolant flush and service too for winter.
SUMMARY:
I’m an absolute fool for selling this car, I only bought it to get it out my system and resell. If I were to keep it longer, I’d consider poly bushing the 4 corners to tighten it up. Since the top mounts were done, it’s made the front bushings a tiny bit noisy since the car is now sitting correctly again… otherwise, it’s perfectly fine to use as is and be tweaked over time. It’s an amazing little car and gets more attention than you’d imagine! Ready for a long term owner again!
