Description
This is my Mercedes-Benz W108 280SE 3. 5. I’m the second owner, and it has been extensively restored and upgraded during my 15 years of ownership. The car was originally built for GQ (where I worked as Features Editor), with the support of Mercedes-Benz UK, for London Fashion Week in 2015. You can read about it here: - details above (copy of the print issue is included in the sale). The car's undergone a colossal amount of work before the shoot and after it, including numerous upgrades and modifications:
- Full bare-metal respray in its original two-tone paint
- New braking system (new lines, rebuilt callipers, new master cylinder)
- New air conditioning system (retaining original cabin blower fan unit)
- Bosch mechanical fuel injection replaced with modern standalone management system and mappable ECU by Lloyd Specialist Development
- New cooling system (new radiator, electric fan, automatic cut-in)
- Ceramic-coated air filter housing
- Full Air Ride 3P suspension
- Fully functioning satellite phone with cradle
- Becker Europa head rebuilt with Bluetooth compatibility
- Under-seat Kenwood subwoofer
- Passenger footwell subwoofer
- Period-correct Blaupunkt 8-track player
- Components integrated into parcel shelf and kick panels with Aston Martin DB5 grilles
- Silk headliner and interior accents by Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons
- Matching Globe-Trotter suitcase (yes, it's real!) with custom push-fit holder in the boot
- Custom 8-track storage in the boot
- Door handles engraved by shotgun maker Ray Ward
- Integrated one-plug trickle charging (charger included)
- Re-veneered interior wood in black-stained ash by Rolls-Royce specialists Chapman & Cliff
- The base car is also a high-spec example:
- 3. 5-litre V8 280SE
- Electric windows all round (with new regulators)
- Black MB-Tex interior
- Factory air conditioning
- Rear reading light
There’s some imperfect chrome (new parts are included in the sale) and a few little bits that stop it being a full concourse show car, but it's a very presentable cruiser.
This is an extraordinary build. I never thought I’d sell it — but I need to make space for another project. Viewing strongly advised. Not a lot of history with the car.
