This car is a lovely example of a 1991 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTi with the Big Bumpers. This vehicle was built towards the end of Mk2 production and is equipped with side impact bars, sunroof and power steering.
• 5 Door Body
• 8 Valve engine – 1781cc
• 5 Speed manual
• Beautiful solid black paint
• BBS 15” RA alloy wheels
• Sunroof
• Bodywork is has had the attention needed to ensure this car will last.
This car was a solid example of the model prior to being recommissioned after a period in storage.
The interior and exterior of the car are in good original condition. Many new mechanical parts have been fitted to bring this car back to the legendary VW standard of the period.
This car drives well and meets the high expectations set by all the glowing motoring reviews. A genuinely great car to drive, with no knocks or rattles from the suspension, responsive steering and great brakes. A nice tight overall feel to the car, takes you back to the glory days of the Mk2 GTi.
The car has big pile of old MOT’s and receipts for parts fitted to the car over the years. Clearly the previous owners looked after the car and many more new parts were fitted during my ownership and recommissioning.
The manual sunroof and windows work smoothly, instruments are in good condition, all switches work, and the MFD functions as it should do.
Much work has been put into getting the interior of the car up to an excellent standard. A new black brushed nylon headlining was fitted and the sunroof cover was retrimmed to match. The interior has cloth seats with good condition fabric showing no rips or areas of excessive wear. The cloth was removed from all seats and washed twice in a washing machine. Both front seats were rebuilt with new seat base foam pads and the passenger seat had a new backrest pad fitted. As a result the seats are very comfortable on long journeys. New pedal rubbers have been fitted to complete the overall look. The interior looks like it has covered far fewer miles than it has done.
The engine runs well, pulling strongly up the the redline with no concerning noises at all. The car has covered a relatively high mileage, however it is evident that this example has been well maintained and the result is the car remains healthy. This car runs well and starts on first the turn of the key every time, hot or cold.
The paintwork on this car appears to be mostly original. There are marks, paint chips, minor scratches and the odd small dent here and there commensurate with the age of the vehicle. The original paint polishes up to a high gloss finish and attracts many positive compliments from enthusiasts. Overall I am very happy with the original appearance. The bonnet has a number of stone chips, however this does not detract from the car from my perspective.
The bodywork has had attention to ensure it is structurally sound. Minor repairs were undertaken at the ends of both rear sills, and at the ends of the rear wheel arches to rectify corrosion damage. The specialist who undertook the work remarked the body had survived much better than other examples around today reflecting the good care taken by previous owners. There is an area of corrosion in the driver's side rear door. A good condition spare door which needs painting and fitting is supplied with the car to rectify this issue.

Wheels - The car has a set of brand new tyres on refurbished original 15 inch BBS RA wheels. These wheels really finish the car off well. This car was a hero of the 1990s. Out of reach to many young enthusiasts in period due to excessively high insurance costs but now considered a sensible classic that can be used regularly without needing to compromise on comfort or practicality. Driving this car brings back many memories.
The car was sold by Bramley Motor Cars in Surrey. The dealer sticker is in the rear window and the number plate has the logo present.
This particular example was owned by the same family for over 27 years and selling it to me was clearly an emotional experience. The previous owners were enthusiasts that kept on top of all servicing and repairs needed. No bodged repairs were evident and plenty of parts had been fitted to keep the car running properly. Prior to my acquisition, the car had been put into storage and required recommissioning before it could go back onto the road. Undertaking this work was a delightful experience.
The car has not been modified since it left the factory. Everything has a standard appearance except for the radio which is a period correct aftermarket unit.
