Selling off my toy collection, including this lovely little Volvo 480 non turbo, 5 speed car, in metallic blue with the grey cloth interior.
It has a full mot, fires up first time, drives as straight as an arrow and is super comfortable!!
EXTERIOR:
It is in overall, very tidy condition… the paint is still shiny and clean although would probably benefit a good valet all round. Rust is very minimal on the car, solid chassis, bit of paint fading over the one wheel arch and bumpers, but it’s very pleasing to the eye and all the lights work, albeit rear lenses are cloudy and a bit brittle with age. Rear bumper could ideally do with a little attention, if anything, small dimple in it and pushed slightly forward. Otherwise, 4 very good matching tyres, working sunroof, pop up lights and with scope to make nicer with minimal tlc.
INTERIOR:
Pretty clean inside, no rips or wearing to the seats, carpets, headlining etc. Dashboard also very good, mp3 player fitted with working electric antenna, electric windows, mirrors, sunroof all operable. The info centre, which displays the fuel, has a mind of its own. Currently it isn’t working, but will one day light up and work again!! These cars are known for this issue… I simply put fuel in, reset the trip clock and use that as a back up to needing fuel.
Rear window hatch seal has allowed water in the boot area, during winter, so may want looking at before next winter. Otherwise there’s a box full of spares in the boot that are probably worth £1000 on their own!
MECHANICS:
It has taken me some time to get the car mot’d… coupled with previous mechanics that let me down with it! However, my latest guy is REALLY good and went through the car slowly and correctly, to get it through an mot with zero advisories!
This has included a new alternator, battery, rebuilt front caliper, new rear caliper, idle control valve, replacement ps pump and handbrake cable. It drives superbly, very quiet and smooth, cambelt was done at 73k miles and there’s a new one in the boot if you’re bored. There’s no fluid loss, clutch/ gearbox are perfect… genuine little car!
SUMMARY:
As with all cars of this age, there is always room to improve them… this one included! However, you can use it as is and play with it along the way. A good valet would bring it back to life and perhaps the rear bumper reseating and painting. Also a look at the info centre in the dash would be what I’d have done if I kept it. But I need the space back.
