Description
Singer Junior Two Seater Tourer 1926
848cc OHC Four cylinder
Engine and gearbox restored in the last few years by the previous owner. All the mechanical bits are in very good order with everything having been oiled and greased together with an oil change ready for it’s next outing.
This is the first year the Singer Junior was made and it features a handful of desirable differences to the models that followed such as aluminium brake shoes. The car is simplicity itself with thermo-syphon cooling and gravity fed fuel supply. It has rod operated brakes on the back axle only. The drums have two sets of shoes, one set for the handbrake and one set for the footbrake. The minimalist electrics all work. The magneto ignition is in fine fettle with an electric starter making the car easy to get going. The car works on a total loss system for lighting and starting. The dynamo is present but not wired up.
The car has been the subject of extensive restoration during its previous ownership and was once owned by the secretary of the Singer Owners Club. It has spent much of it’s life in Australia, only having been in the UK for the last 20 years or so. Underneath the car is very clean and rust free. The interior is simple with a comfy well upholstered bench seat. The foot pedals are fairly closely spaced with the accelerator in the middle. The legroom is reasonable but wouldn’t be suitable for anyone over 6ft without modifying the seat back. The cockpit space is narrow but accommodates two people in reasonable comfort. The canvas hood is easy to raise and lower but could do with some work to make it entirely watertight.
The car was used for trials and driving tests (some VSCC) by the previous owner.
Reluctantly and unexpectedly advertised. Would consider PX / exchange for larger car.
You are welcome to come and have a look. I live 10 miles west of Leominster in Herefordshire. A fantastic and very rare little car. A great alternative to the much more common Austin 7. The Singer Owners Club offers excellent support and has specialist owner / drivers who have a wealth of knowledge. These cars are welcomed by the VSCC (this car has a VSCC buff form but the new owner would need to apply for theirs).
