1946 triumph roadster 1800. Famously driven by Jim Bergerac in the prominent TV series Bergerac. The triumph roadster, captain John blacks answer to the postwar sports car market, was originally developed to challenge the upcoming XK120 from Jaguar. Only 2501 of them were produced, with the early cars allegedly using Supermarine Spitfire Aluminium repurposed after the war. The Jaguar derived SS engine with weslake head conversion gave ample power to the open top cruiser. Being the last production car with so the called “dickie” seat, the roadster makes a fine and capable 4 seat tourer, along with the Frank Callaby designed coachwork providing beautiful pre war curves, only adds to the overall desirability.

This example has been in the current ownership for the last 40 years!
Originally completed on the 9th of August 1946, this very early car as denoted by its early chassis number TRD158 was exported new to a South African airbase. The first owner is believed to be a fighter pilot on an RAF base, the thought of the car trundling round between left over hawker hurricanes and Spitfires certainly conjures up an exciting image.
The car was repatriated in the 70s. Eventually to be found in a rather derelict state by the current owner, in the mid 80s. Although very rough she was complete. The current owner (who has recently finished 3rd at Pebble Beach!) went on to complete a thorough restoration to concours level, evident in how well the restoration has held up, still presenting extremely well. The engine was recently rebuilt by Langstone Engineering. With new big ends, small ends, pistons, sleeves ect. to the same high standard both internally and aesthetically.

Ready to be enjoyed at the multiple classic and concours events around, or simply trundling around the countryside, she represents a fantastic and interesting acquisition.

All part exchanges welcome, transport can be arranged worldwide.

If you have any questions, then please do get in touch, the car is available to view in Essex.
