Description

I'm the 4th owner of this rare example of a VW Vanagon GL Wolfsburg Edition. It was sold by 'Ron Price VW' in San Francisco after originally being built in Germany. It spent 21 years in California before being imported to the UK in 2010. It has been used an average of 3000 miles a year since 1989.

I bought it in May 2017. A change in our family priorities means I have to put it up for sale.

The odometer stopped working around October 2022 - at 104531 genuine miles - but I've hardly driven it over the past few years. No long journeys, occasional local use. In mid-April 2025, I had the odometer replaced with one that reads 39, 238 miles. I have the old odometer still as evidence.

The van is powered by a 2100cc fuel-injected 4-cylinder petrol engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox.

1989 hard-top Wolfsburg Editions featured full curtain sets and folding rear seats that converted into beds.

The van is a Westfalia conversion and still has the original interior in good condition for its age (as you can see in the pictures). It runs well now that the alternator has been replaced.

Pop-up roof with double bed up top. Rock and roll bed in the rear. The gas hobs work. The fridge works on electric hook up and when the van is running.

There are some bits of work needed to get it fully ship shape again:

- The rubber window seals in the cab windows need replacing
- Driver's side electric window needs a new motor (the passenger one works and the smaller corner flip windows open for ventilation
- The central locking is inconsistent but all locks work manually
- A new water pump for the kitchen sink is needed
- The air blowers in the dash board have stopped working and the air conditioning system hasn't worked for a while (not really missed as it was so old anyway - and not very effective)
- The stereo isn't working (I have been using large portable speakers which are louder with better bass
- The dashboard/ speedo head lights are temperamental
- The temperature gauge is faulty

Lots of documentation support works carried out, stretching back to its time in California.

Happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. The Wolfsburg Edition Vanagons had limited production numbers and are sought-after among collectors and enthusiasts.
