Description
Jasper Conran 323/ 400 limited edition. SHOW STANDARD CAR - with extensive rust repairs.
A very reluctant and much deliberated sale of a show winning example among it's peers - Best standard MK2 at the Beaulieu MX-5 Show in 2019.
2000 Jasper Conran limited to 400 examples, this car is number 323. We have original brochures and adverts which will accompany and it is one of the rarest and most premium of the limited edition runs.
The Jasper Conran MX-5 was a UK special edition for the year 2000. This model was created in collaboration with British fashion designer Jasper Conran. The car was based on a standard 1. 8iS so featured a 5-speed gearbox with a much sought after LSD. There were two specifications available, 400 in Brilliant Black with black leather interior, and 100 painted in the unique Platinum Silver with a red leather interior.
Both cars featured luxury interiors with Wilton carpets throughout and high quality Connolly leather for the seats, door panels, and tonneau cover. The interior also features several aluminium silver accents around the air vents, instruments, door handles, and centre console.
The 3-spoke Nardi steering wheel was given new silver trim and a silver gearknob and handbrake handle were also added. The standard Mazda stereo was upgraded to a Sony CD MiniDisc unit and the interior also gets a numbered badge. The exterior changes included unique design 15" BBS alloy wheels, and an exhaust tailpipe trim.
We used the car as our wedding vehicle, so lots of sentimentality. However with a toddler we just don't get to drive it and cannot foresee using it for several years to come. 93k miles on the clock. We (my wife and I) have owned the car since 2017 and have spared no expense. As can be seen from the MOT history over the last few years we have been driving it less and less with only 200 miles driven this year and this car deserves to be driven with all the work put into it.
Over £12k of welding, servicing and fitting of subframes and paint work done through 2023 at a specialist in Liskeard - I am taking a big financial loss I know, but when factoring in minimal necessitated expenditure over our 8 years of ownership from a very reliable car I am trying to reconcile the loss! This is likely one of the most rust free and solid cars available with years of worry free motoring ahead as we actively sought to look for rust to rectify hence why it became so extensive. Hundreds of photos of the work in an album, and top quality welding, all rust was found and addressed. An appreciating and rare future classic.
Rust repairs included:
-Rear arches and sills
-Front jack points
-Battery well
-Front chassis rails
-Front torque boxes
-Footwells
-Middle chassis rails
-Rear subframe captive bolts
In addition to the above expenditure, a brand new heated glass roof was fitted last year with a rain rail at MX-5 Parts in Portsmouth, and genuine Mazda seals were fitted for the roof including around the doors. The rear tail light and seals behind rear lights all also replaced with genuine Mazda parts.
Fully powdercoated and polybushed subframes and suspension fitted last year to finish off the rebuild. New battery in the last few months.
MOT till December. Previous advisories noted an exhaust leak which was addressed with a new gasket and the car also had a replacement backbox and backbox heat shield beyond this.
The other advisory was for tyres, it has matching Yokohama tyres with good tread all round - advisory noted some cracking/ perishing however you cannot obviously see this on the tyres.
The car is obviously extremely well serviced and has had multiple cambelts in our ownership as well as water pump and genuine main and cam seals during its rebuild. Fresh oil regularly despite minimal mileage. Recent service in August 2025 included oil, air filter, brake fluid, steering rack gaiters, clutch slave gaiter.
Please note the OEM sony headunit in most of the photographs is faulty, however a silver sony headunit is supplied and works. It gets swapped in for shows for originality.
If I were to continue to keep the car in top condition there is a tiny blister (touched up) on the front passenger wing and the mudflaps would benefit from a respray if being particular - nothing structural or expensive and the buyer should not be put off by these.
The car will come with an extensive printed photo album of all welding work, a bulging service wallet, original brochures, the Jasper C show plates & tonneau cover.
