Description

I have this Mazda Roadster 1. 8 RS for sale and as you can see, its finished in Evolution Orange Mica, the colour Mazda used when they launched the Mk2 models at various motor shows around the world. First registered in July 1998, this model was never available in the UK which is a shame as its specification is quite good. Apart from a six speed gearbox and Torsen limited slip differential, the revised ECU allows the engine to rev a bit harder. The RS also has slightly larger ‘Sport’ brake discs fitted as standard. This one also has Spax suspension, a Mazdaspeed body kit and a Powerflow twin exit stainless steel exhaust. Out on the road, it feels quite different to a standard Mk2 with terrific torque – it will pull from 1000rpm in sixth gear.

Before I tell you more, let me tell you about Goodwood Sportscars and why should you buy from me:
I have been buying and selling Mazda MX5s for over 25 years now. While I'm a car dealer, I consider myself to be a car enthusiast above all else. I'll only sell cars that actual interest me as an enthusiast. I live, sleep and breath quick cars and have sold literally thousands of performance cars over a thirty five year period. I have competed in various forms of motorsport including the Scottish Hillclimb Championship (in an MX5 of course). So I'm pretty good at spotting a good MX5 and at making one work to the best of its ability. I've had many thousands of MX5s through my hands and know their strengths and weaknesses well. Back to our car: its covered around 93000 miles (though I think this is a combination of miles and kilometres so it may be a bit less). Electric windows are standard as are central locking and twin airbags.

Bodywork is everything on an MX5 and its excellent on this one with no rust. If you feel around the inside lip of the rear wheel arches, its lovely and clean with no sign of previous repairs. Sills, wings and underside are all in very good, solid condition. The infamous front chassis rails, which are usually crusty and crumbling, are in excellent condition. There are no dents anywhere though there is the odd very minor scratch and stone chip here and there, though nothing thats going to result in sleepless nights. The bodywork is in genuinely lovely condition and I reckon is better than 90% of Mk2s out there. Its complimented by a set of very rare/ very light SSR Speedstar 16” alloys which suit the car well. Tyres are of a budget brand but are in good order. Its fitted with a black mohair soft top complete with glass window.

Inside everything is nice and clean. Seats and all trim are in decent condition and its fitted with a Nardi leather-rimmed steering wheel and matching gear knob. The stereo system has Bluetooth, USB and Aux ports along with an electric aerial.

Out on the road, this is quite different to your standard MX5. It handles better, feels quite a bit quicker and simply feels much more driver-focused. If you read online reviews of the RS models, its apparent that these are very highly rated. I’ve covered quite a few miles in this one as part of my sale preparation and it absolutely flies. Handling is just brilliant too while still retaining nice ride quality. There are no rattles or odd noises and it holds its temperature in all conditions. Its fitted with a Apexi air cleaner which has also been repositioned to benefit from cooler air. Gearbox, clutch and brakes are all just as they should be. I know people rave about the Mk1 models (and to be fair, I sell loads of those too) but the Mk2 is simply a better drive. And the RS is even better again.

In preparation for its sale, its just been comprehensively checked over. In fact whenever I prepare a car for sale, I use my own MX5-based checklist which covers 80+ points and ensures that even the detail stuff is checked and any issues spotted and attended to. This includes all sorts of things such as hood catches, drain holes, electric windows, door locks, condition of coolant hoses right down to the state of the cigarette lighter. It means the car is fit for purpose and should behave and drive just as a good MX5 should. Accordingly, its just been serviced with new spark plugs and silicone leads, new oil and oil filter and new brake fluid. We have also recently fitted a new timing belt, idlers and a new water pump along with a new radiator. It has just been MOT tested (with no advisories) and is ready to be used and enjoyed. Price is a firm £4995.

I'm based in Berwick on Tweed, near the Scottish Border and I can collect any prospective buyer from the local train station or I can arrange to have the car delivered by a trusted transport company at extra cost. I’m well known in the MX5 world and know these cars well. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions – if you are genuinely interested, you’ll have plenty and I’m happy to talk about MX5s all day. I'm also happy to give you an honest description and if there any faults or issues with the car, I much prefer to tell you up front, so you are clear about what you are buying.
