Description
Hello, for sale is my 1995 TVR Chimaera finished in Brooklands Racing Green with Biscuit interior.
The fundamentals are this Chimaera has 9 months MOT, a recent positive inspection from a specialist, it starts and drives well with a solid chassis and lots of service history. The hood is very recent and in fantastic conditon. Its in daily use too!
75, 980 on the clock and 8 previous owners.
Following the sale of my GT4 I always hankered after a TVR as a bucket list tick box, I did all the research and looked at lots, this one appealed mainly because it had been in the hands of a local TVR specialist who could vouch for it but also because the colour combination was just right and lastly, it had spent a long time in spain so the chassis was in solid condition.
The car has a substantial service history file dating back over the years with regular maintenance.
I knew the car would have some little issues but that is TVR ownership, however I knew the car was solid and up and running. My goal was to improve and resolve some of the niggles.
So far I have had the car serviced including air filter, replaced the stepper motor and ecu temp sensor, had the manifold gaskets changed and the cam cover gaskets changed.
New front discs and pads have been fitted too.
I have also rewired the stereo with new speakers, a proper ISO harness and a period correct (but modern!) Blaunpunkt stereo with Bluetooth etc
What this has resulted in is a car that starts, idles well, has good low speed manners (many of the ones I test drove did not) and resolved some of the common issues these cars have.
The clutch and gearbox are lovely, not too heavy but positive.
The bodywork is good but does have some age related patina, the interior is really nice with just some fading to the carpets.
It has a modern remote central locking system which is fanastic, it also holds charge too so no phantom battery drains to worry about. This is an up and running TVR Chimaera with a solid chassis that sounds healthy and goes well. Its sat in traffic and ive driven it long distance with no issue. Its not a £15k car or a £20k but in my opinion buy one at this price and actually use it!!
I have owned the car a few months and its been everything you can imagine, I've driven and owned lots of bits but nothing is quite like one of these! Its loud and brutal but oddly to my surprise once you're up and running very comfortable and practical.
Im also a genuine guy, you're welcome to have a look, have a cup of tea and take time. Im not hiding anything. V5 in my name, no funny business.
The MOT history noted two oil leaks, they have been present for a while and I was advised by the specialist not to be concerned as there can be little leaks, however I had the cam cover gaskets changed as they were leaking and it was a job well done.
The other is small one from the rear diff but it is minor.
The car would benefit from shocks as its a bit soft but no knocking or clanking.
The heater motor (for the interior) is also a bit noisy but this has been out once so the hardwork is done when fitting a new one. But being frank the car is warm enough - I have never used it and unless you're going to be using it in the winter this is a job I would not do.
