Description
Rare Morris SunTor 1/ 2 Ton Camper (A60) supplied new in June 1972 by Torcars of Torrington, finished in Mallard Green. In my ownership for 18 years, used for touring holidays, camping and classic car shows every year since 2007. Serviced correctly and regularly, the last in 2024 using full service schedule. Original passport to service, magazine article from 2005, list of all owners/ dates from new, substantial and interesting history folder, including many invoices/ MOT certificates, Half Ton Van Handbook and (rare) Leyland workshop manual. Actual mileage could be in region of 60, 000 (mileometer not working for a number of years during my ownership) repaired in 2022, now reading 37943 but will go up a little as being used. New tyres 2023 (just over 1, 000 miles ago), new battery 2024. Believe all panels and main mechanical components are original; electronic ignition fitted. Partial repaint about 10 years ago due to fading, still looking lovely and free of significant issues - and nothing to concern or detract from the overall very good to excellent condition (my description). I believe underside mostly original, just a little welding in 2008.
Comfortable and largely original interior, which is very smart considering age, excellent upholstery, new curtains using NOS 70s material, lots of storage, gas bottle under wardrobe floor, fluorescent light (plus a spare unit supplied), electric hook up facility (lead not included in sale), water container currently not fitted but supplied with car. Clock in facia not connected and reversing lights stopped working a few years ago (light unit and pull switch themselves worked when last tested but there must be a loose connection somewhere from front to back, as yet not located).
The SunTor is not concours but screams originality, shines and looks well, good chrome, drives smoothly (a go anywhere car), completely genuine and told solid. It has been very reliable, a joy to own and much loved, and greatly admired on camp sites and at shows alike. Deserves another genuine and enthusiastic owner to continue looking after and enjoying this wonderful and extremely rare old girl, especially in this condition and level of originality. Its versatility and usability sets it apart, being equally good for load carrying, as a 5 seater estate car, for shopping and picnic trips, as a caravan on site and as a tourer on holiday. I bought the SunTor in 2007 because of its incomparable design for the size, versatility and originality. I love the 50s Cambridge-based styling built still manufactured in a post-Farina world! It’s bigger than a Marina SunTor (I viewed a Marina and this A60 on the same day - no contest!), fun to drive, uniquely gentlemenly, comfortable and full of character.
