Description
I have owned this 1948 Velocette MAC since 2010. I had been familiar with the bike for several years before buying it, when it was owned by a friend.
The bike is fitted with the correct for 1948, Dowty Pnuematic forks, although as is commonly the case, springs have been fitted within the forks.
The bike left the factory on 27th May 1948, and was delivered to Emery's of Bangor. The Engine and Frame numbers tie up with the factory dispatch records, as certified by the Velocette Owners Club.
This "Iron Head" MAC has been restored to a high standard. The big end bearing were supplied and replaced by Geoff Dodkin, carb restored by Martyn Bratby and the magneto and dynamo have been professionally restored.
The paintwork is first class; 2 pack paint carried out by a professional.
Powder coating by Yorvik Engineering Services of York
Prestige Plating did a superb job on the chromium plating.
The wheels are Dunlop and look great following chroming
This bike has retained it's originality largely due to the completeness of the parts it still has 77 years after leaving the factory. This bike performs really well. It is light to handle, both whilst being ridden and when moving it about eg. in and out of the garage. Being a rigid framed machine it is always very easy to get both feet on the ground. It's fun to ride and easy to live with.
