Description

This is one of, by my estimate, six Sport Prinzes remaining in the country and of course the only one for sale! I have owned it for two and a half years and in that time it has been well cared for and received some mechanical work using quality parts, for example the Dynastart, which I replaced with a NOS unit I was very fortunately able to find and a full carburetor rebuild and ultrasonic clean. Other works have been completed and there are many spare parts that will come with the car. Current jobs on the list include rewiring the horn, as I have sourced an original connector from the NSU Owners Club, and fitting a new axle nut, again a NOS part has been sourced for this. Although it is MOT exempt, I can do the work to get it through one before sale. The braking system has been fully refurbished with a new master cylinder. The paint is Mercedes silver, a change from the original creme, and the interior was fully reupholstered. All in all this is one of the best examples of these already very rare cars and a fine example of classic German engineering, not to mention, surely one of Bertone's finest works of art. While I've owned it I have used it to drive up Prescott hillclimb, round Goodwood circuit, to Le Mans, to work and back, and to many many more car events. It's a very capable two cylinder which is very tractable around town but if you'd like more power a Weber DCOE manifold and 'hot' cam are available shipped from Germany - something I would consider, if I was keeping the car. It will top out the speedo at an indicated 80mph but is far more comfortable just above 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways, which it can do carrying four adults! That is a tight squeeze but it is indeed a 2+2. I highly recommend reading the road test by Bill Boddy in Motorsport Magazine, to get a good understanding of what this car is like. Although it is on modern rubber with new brake fluid and so on, its characteristics are much the same over half a century later. This car has never let me down and to use the cliche, it is a genuine head turner, even people who have no interest in cars stop and stare. The controls are very light with small pedals so it is easy to drive for anyone unless you are very tall (>6'5) which is not always the case with cars of this age that lack power steering and servo brakes. Driving this car has truly been unforgettable and I hope the next owner can enjoy it as much as I have.
