Description
Very rare Breyton Wide Body E46, 1 of 4 ever built by Breyton themselves.
Non-Runner. Had the glow plugs professionally removed because three had snapped, and ever since i installed new plugs it hasn't wanted to start (plugs are correct for this car apparently). Spent many hours looking around the intake manifold for any connectors or vacuum lines i may have missed but no luck. The engine turns but doesn't want to start :(.
It is a project car, so has work needed doing. I originally wanted to do this myself including some welding on the underside of the car, but ever since the glow plug scenario i gave up. The bodywork needs repainting on some panels as in the previous ownership it has been key'd at some point but not immensely, just on some parts of the bonnet and only quite lightly too. As mentioned it has some rust patches around the jacking points and sills and maybe the rear subframe too. It could do with some good welding work done, there are quite a few places out there where you can buy almost any panel that needs to be replaced from sills to inner arches and at reasonable prices too, it just needs someone to put some time in to sort it properly which i wanted to do but gave up after the ignition issue, which is more than likely something very simple to fix it's just that i can't find out what it could be. The outside of the arches seem fine as it's been kitted out with the breyton widebody which is all fiber glass and has been done to a high standard as seen in the photos. I especially like how it blends into the rear doors/ arches. The interior is quite nice especially the suede/ alcantara (i think) head liner which is still in very good condition. The leather seats could do with a bit of a clean up as well as the armrest which has some kind of glue residue on it from perhaps a botched cover at some point.
When i bought it and had it shipped over from Ireland back in 2021 the front bumper was removed to get it onto the trailer and hasn't been reattached since. It is cracked and has a very heavy and poorly made front splitter which i was going to throw away, a decent one could be made to make it look much nicer. I was planning on putting an M3 front bumper on and cutting the sides of the Breyton bumper off and blend them into the M3 bumper as the Breyton one is wider to compensate for the wider front arches.
It was running and driving fine all up until the glow plug change as mentioned. I'm certain a qualified mechanic could sot it out in a couple hours, it's just i can't be bothered with it anymore.
It's a shame to see a classic E46 like this not being driven as it deserves to, and would be a very nice alternative to an E46 M3 but with 4 doors and the diesel mpg.
Will need to be picked up on a trailer.
Price is negotiable, but please no low ball offers as i will be losing money on the sale.
Any questions please feel free to ask.
Please note it doesn't have the stickers on the bumper, windscreen anymore, and doesn't look as clean as the front bumper has been removed and the side bump strip on the offside rear door has come off slightly. Can send more recent phots if needed but will be shot inside a cramped garage.
Thank you. It was apparently only one of four ever built by Breyton with three being petrol 2. 8's and supercharged (check out Youtube to see a German showcase of such models! Very nice, and the BMWcar magazine photos too), also with full high spec brakes all round. This one didn't have such treatment. The brakes i think are standard but the engine has been tuned in some way although i can't specify how as i don't have much of the paperwork as it was all lost by the previous owner.
Back in the early 2000's Breyton were offering this kit for around £15000 i believe and spent most of its life over in Northern Ireland and i think it was a show car at some point, as it has a very nice interior and sound system in the boot/ rear seat centre armrest. with a a bit of work and some nice finishing touches to the exterior (ie: different spoiler, wheels with wider offset, and paint touch up, and obviously getting the engine starting again) it would make for a very nice daily or even a show car. And one of only four ever made, with three being overseas in Germany.
There was a a review of the Supercharged models of this car in the BMWcar magazine )included) from back in Feb 2002, these were of the left hand drive cars that didn't get the rear wide arch like the one i have but were more track oriented with the hefty AP brake kit.
