Description
2002 E39 M5 Le Mans Blue facelift.
I’ve owned this fully loaded facelift M5 for 10 years and covered around 8, 000 miles in it (now showing 75, 600). It was already a well looked after clean example and I paid top money in 2015 from a reputable M5 dealer to get a good one. I have since continued to improve and enhance this legendary super-saloon, to be able to present it in its current stunning condition.
In my ownership (5 former keepers) it’s wanted for nothing, being annually inspected and kept in tip-top condition by a local performance car specialist who has remained heavily invested in the cars care.
I needed this car to drive better than new, so I spent a fortune replacing alll the bushes and arms with original BMW parts. I also opted (after considerable research) for top spec Bilstein Coilovers to enhance the handling characteristics. Although sitting on coilovers the car is set pretty much at stock ride height.
I wanted this car to sound the part so I had a handmade custom exhaust produced with sport cats deliberately tuned for a very deep V8 ensemble. It really does sound intoxicating. Not intrusive in any way, just a deep burble to subtly enhance the V8 soundtrack.
The M5 has always been dry-stored in my ownership as part of an M-car collection, never driven in winter or wet weather. The previous owner also kept the car garaged. For this reason it’s presents exceptionally well, is open to any inspection and has never been welded.
It’s recently been fully wax oiled (second time in my ownership), machine polished and ceramic coated. The paint has a deep lustre and is in fantastic condition helping this legendary car stand out as being something very special.
The interior shows few signs of its age and is virtually unmarked. Everything works as it should including the Navigation and 6 disk CD changer.
The engine starts on the button and settles down quickly into a super smooth stable idle. Once up to temperature (after all the lights go out), it’s time for all hell to break loose. The m5 accelerates relentlessly and there really is nothing quite so intoxicating as this historical normally aspirated Bahn Stormer howling towards the red line.
The E39 M5 is a car that all enthusiasts should experience. Truly amazing and hard to believe it’s 23 years old. BMW broke the mould with the E39 and alas, this is one the last of the great BMW’s.
The car has pretty much doubled in value in the last 10 years and with super low mileage collectors cars already fetching over £60, 000, you can rest assured your investment will outpace any running/ storage costs.
The gearbox is smooth, shifts well and the powertrain is as tight as the day it rolled off the production line having covered so few miles it’s barely run-in.
Last year I had the wheels refurbished in the correct shadow chrome and shod with Michelin pilot sport 4 tyres which are still brand new. I also had the rear view mirror replaced as a precaution as these are known to spilll their contents damaging the interior.
The brake disks and pads are also virtually brand new having covered very few miles since replacement.
The car drives like new, pulls hard and sounds incredible . You won’t find another example for sale that drives as well.
So why am I selling? I have too many cars and I just want to scale back a bit. I don’t have the time to drive it and feel it needs to go to a new home to continue to be cherished and driven.
I’m asking a fair price for what is undoubtedly one of the finest examples available today and therefore I’m not open to offers.
Car has a fresh MOT and full service history. Ready for a collection or to be driven as BMW M-division intended.
I have just purchased a complete tool kit as some parts missing, I also have a custom boot carpet on order from Germany and a new bonnet sound proofing liner which will all be included when they arrive.
The bad bits: if you search hard enough you will find the odd age related blemish, it’s not a show car, it’s been used and enjoyed but never abused.
