Description
A unique opportunity to acquire a completely original 2 door Suffix A Range Rover
BXC 241K
1972 Suffix A Range Rover in Tuscan Bue
Chassis no. 35600237A
This particular vehicle was purchased new from Land Rover directly (BXC being a factory registration) as a personal export and taken to Lebanon. The owner, a Lt. Colonel in the British Army, was the defence attache for Lebanon and Syria.
A Land Rover Owner magazine article in October 2008 chronicled the many interesting trips the vehicle undertook during his 36 year ownership.
He sold the vehicle in 2008 to a collector in Belgium where it remained in storage until 2014 when it was bought by Chris Bishop of Bishops Classics. I bought the car from Chris in 2019.
The car has been dry stored in my ownership and used periodically but has keep looked after and kept maintained. I am reluctantly selling because I rarely use it.
The first owner who owned the car for 36 years kept a meticulous service record in an old exercise book. This comes with the car with the original manual.
The car remains in fantastic original condition, largely as the first owner had it. The bodywork is generally tidy with patches of aluminium corrosion in places. He hand-painted some of the panels.
The chassis is solid with surface corrosion. The sills are original and sound. The rear body crossmember is original and has a hole (pictured). All body mounts are perished but solid.
The interior is completely original with all the super-rare items in place - palomino transmission tunnel cover, all original palomino seats, the extraordinarily rare thin rubber boot floor mat, spare wheel cover, door cards and a complete tool kit with the very rare grease gun. The seats have period fabric covers fitted, the front seats are in very poor condition but complete under the covers, the back seat is good.
The following work has been completed in the last 6 years:
New petrol tank
New brakes lines front to back, new discs all round and new brake callipers front and back.
New brake flexi hoses
New clutch slave cylinder
Oil change and service
BF Goodrich tyres and refurbished Rostyle wheels painted in Sahara Dust
The car is fully roadworthy and has just been checked over, the carburettors balanced and tuned.
The engine runs very smoothly and quietly like a 3. 5V8 should, starts instantly and runs cool.
This car is in unique condition and I would advise it requires further preservation (particularly the underbody) rathe than restoration as this level of originality is hard to find nowadays.
I thoroughly recommend viewing the car if you are interested, it needs to be seen to be appreciated. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a Suffix A with impeccable provenance and history.
