Description

Extremely reluctant sale of our VW Westfalia California T25 (or T3) camper:
1989 first registered in Germany
Left hand drive
1600cc turbo diesel
MOT passed August 18th 2025 – NO ADVISORIES.
All original interior except for fridge which we had to replace (original one wouldn’t keep temperature). Original curtains as well.
Superb condition inside and out, seats have no visible wear, no marks , rips or tears.
We’ve only driven it for 13, 000 miles in the past 6 and a half years.
Pop up sunroof above driver and passenger
Smaller sunroof in the pop-up casing
canopy
Bodywork had quite a bit of tidying done in 2019, including a brand new (very rare!) boot lid.
All window rubber seals replaced, so no perishing leading to water ingress.
Fabulous condition underneath.
321, 000 km (199, 000 miles).
New cylinder head fitted in 2021
Complete power steering system replaced in 2024-25, including rack, pump, pipes etc.
New Campervan Culture pop-up roof, now has side windows unlike the original one.
New Campervan Culture door mirrors, vastly better than originals!
All suspension components replaced, including shock absorbers and springs, lowering the van by ¾” (20mm), which vastly improved its handling and general steering.
New fridge.
New starter motor fitted in 2023.
New eberspacher diesel-powered interior heater
New battery.
New secondary battery.
Intermittent wiper function added.
High level brake light fitted - but no drilling done as I have not wanted to damage any panels or interior fittings - this camper has been cared for like a baby!

We bought this in January 2019 from friends living in the Dordogne, and since then it’s lived in a barn in Brittany when we’ve not used it, only coming back to the UK for a couple of summer holiday trips and each annual MOT.
Because it lived in Germany for the first 17 years of its life, then in the UK for 2 years, followed by the rest of its life in France, it has hardly ever been exposed to the UK salted roads. Hence its fantastic condition.
It drives beautifully, and the brakes, clutch and gearbox are top class.
Each time it’s come to the UK for MOT it’s been serviced, so servicing has been in excess of normal requirements.
The classic car garage I use (QPREP in Oundle, Northants) know our camper well, and say it’s one of the best T25’s they’ve ever seen.
We genuinely don’t want to part with our camper, we’ve had so many fabulous trips around France in it, but my French partner’s parents are moving house so we’re going to lose the barn it lives in.

I’ve cared for this camper like a baby, and know it intimately, so I only want it to go to a good home!

Of course with a 36 year old vehicle there’s always bits that could be improved:

• The heater fan doesn’t work, which is a common problem. I have a brand new replacement motor which I’ve never got around to fitting, this will be included with the van
• There’s some marks on the inside of the fibreglass pop-up roof casing.
• The fixings on the pop-up casing are a bit blemished, but everything works fine.
• The original California decals were removed when I first bought it and had the bodywork tidied up, and I’ve never replaced them. They are available online if desired.
• We’ve never used the water tank and tap, relying on fresh water at camp sites or from a water bottle if we’ve wild camped. There are parts our friends gave us to get the tap system working if required which we’ve not used.

There’s also plenty of parts I will include with the sale
• Mudflaps never been fitted
• Replacement small sunroof (original is a little blurred)
• Oil and air filters
• Campervan Culture headlight upgrade kit – this cost me £140ish and I’ve never had time to fit

It’ll be a wrench to part with our camper, but it’s got to move onto someone else. It’s a lovely van which is nice to drive and has huge character!
