Description
BSA Bantam D7 Super 1965
I purchased this bike from H and H Classics in an online auction in July 2020. The bike had undergone a complete nut and bolt rebuild by a retired gentlemen who was an ex RAF engineer, road racer and speedway rider. He’d spent the last few years immaculately restoring a number of motorbikes that he then displayed in his ‘Man Cave’. None of them were ever run once finished as he was too ‘old’ to ride anymore, he just enjoyed the process. He made every nut bolt and fitting out of stainless steel on his lathe to original specs and a local paint specialist repainted the entire bike. Then he decided to sell his entire collection as he felt he was getting too old to maintain them anymore, so I also purchased an immaculate Sunbeam S8 that he had restored in the same auction.
Since purchasing the bike I have stripped the engine and replaced all the oil seals, bearings, piston, rings and various gearbox components including a new timing chain, kickstart quadrant, clutch plates etc. I’ve also upgraded all the electronics with an Electrex World CDI ignition kit incorporating new CDI ignition, new stator, external rotor and kill switch. Plus I replaced all the control cables, the coil, battery, all the existing wiring with original style cables, connectors and sheathing. A new Amal carb with a Rex Count racing expanded float chamber has been fitted. I have all the original parts plus a large number of spares that can come with the bike, and I can also supply a copy of all the receipts for parts purchased over the past few years.
The bike is registered as a historic vehicle so no MOT is required and although you still have to tax it each year the cost is £0.
The bike also comes with a number of manuals, books, factory service sheets and official parts lists.
I am in the process of reducing and reconfiguring my collection of bikes, I have too many to keep on top of, over 50, and space is a premium at the moment so regretfully a number have to go. Plus in reality I don’t have time to ride them all. If you have any questions you can contact me through the advert. This an ideal starter classic, easy to maintain, easy to manoeuvre around and with the modern electronics easy to start. This is a fun bike to ride, you’ll always end up with a big grin on your face and lots of waves from people as you go past.
