I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that my pre-war motoring days are over – old age and serious health problems are a real pain!
So here is my 1938 Talbot Ten, which I purchased a couple of years ago as a low-mileage but totally rebuilt example (restored bodywork and new paint, new leather upholstery, re-chromed, re-wired). Cosmetically it is excellent with new chrome-work and leather upholstery, but sadly any mechanical work done during the restoration was minimal. I have already done extensive work on the engine and the car now drives well, but the chassis still needs sorting to have the car running as it should. The Luvax dampers are ‘solid’, and need draining and refilling to the correct level, and whilst the brakes work well the pedal travel is too long and the whole system (rod linkages) needs setting up correctly. Basically it needs some advanced routine maintenance, nothing that should be beyond the abilities of a reasonably competent owner, but unfortunately this is now something I am unable to address. Consequently, I have priced the sale well below what I paid for the car to allow for the necessary work to be completed – a simple winter project to have the car ready for next spring.
The car has full ownership history with all the log-books on file and a large binder full of paperwork, together with an original sales brochure and owner’s manual. It can be viewed in north Nottinghamshire but unfortunately I am unable to drive it – if you can provide evidence of suitable insurance cover you are welcome to test drive it, otherwise you will just have to take its abilities on trust. When I bought the car the wheel discs were all-chrome, which I wasn’t keen on – originally they were part-painted in body colour, but before I went to the expense of having them painted only to find I didn’t like the effect (!) I have had then vinyl-wrapped – the chosen colour may not be to your liking but can easily be changed or removed. Full history known with all Registration Documents on file; a total of eight previous owners from new.
