Description

1960 VW Beetle Deluxe 1200 Sedan

Original UK, matching numbers, RHD car , Indigo Blue with Steel Grey interior

This is one of the most original cars in the country. Absolutely factory standard throughout with original engine and original interior as verified by the VW Certificate, all in superb order.

Only 2 previous owners in 65 years who were friends.

Genuine 60, 000 miles

It has the original working semaphores (these were still standard on European cars until 1960 whereas in other markets they were replaced by flashing indicators from 1955). Supplementary front and rear indicators have been added but these can easily be removed if required.

Still has 6 volt electrics

Superb paintwork, perfect wheels shod with nice Firestone F560 tyres

The interior is all original and in fine condition with just the headlining showing its age with some discolouration. However this is much preferable to an aftermarket replacement.

Beautiful front boot area with the original liner and original jack.

The engine bay is also really nice – it even has the original sound insulation. 28PCI Solex carb with manual choke.

Hubcaps – beautiful original items!

Very nice history file which includes a letter from the last owner and photos of the car with both previous owners. Lots of receipts.

The car has just been fully serviced and the dynamo has been rebuilt – it needs nothing and is ready for some new adventures.

MOT until 3/ 3/ 26 with no advisories.

Great registration number which must be worth quite a lot although I wouldn't dream of selling it.

The first owner Stanley Pratt had the car until 1988 when it was taken over by his friend Michael Deakin who had known the car since new. Michael was a VW mechanic and served his apprenticeship at Kingsthorpe Garage, Northampton (photo in file). He set up D&S Autos VW specialists in 1971 where he continued to maintain the car. He bought it from his friend in 1988. Subsequently some light restoration was carried out and the car was professionally repainted in 2007.

In summary this is a very, very rare survivor. There aren't many cars like this left and the chances of acquiring one get more difficult by the day. If you are looking for the best car of this era then look no further – you've found it.
