Description

1985 Ford Fiesta 1. 1 Ghia for sale - 37k from new

How’s this for a rare survivor? A 1985 Ford Fiesta 1. 1 Ghia, finished in metallic Imperial Red, with just 37k miles from new.

Supplied to its first long term owner by Newton Abbot Ford, it still wears the supplying dealer number plates, rear window sticker and comes complete with the original sales literature from 1985.

The car was ordered new with the metallic paint, a cost option of £105. 14, and rear seat belts, another optional cost of £100. 99. Total cost would have been £5716. 97 new.

Being an 1985 model Mk2 Ghia it comes with the slightly extended side protection mouldings, which include rear and front spats for the arches, this was simplified after 1986 models. Also being pre 1986 there were no indicator side repeaters on the wings, common on all the earlier mk2s.

It also comes with the early mk2 bigger head restraints, and the additional sliding cubby storage in the centre console, and of course the early model only internal boot release switch, working perfectly.

Standard fit on the 1985 Ghia was the push button AM/ LW radio (RST 21P model) with cassette player. Radio works, as does the pull up wing mounted aerial, cannot vouch for the cassette player as I have none to test it with…

Interior is in very, very good condition with the optional fit front Ford Waffle rubber floor mats. Factory fitted pop up sunroof works fine and is water tight.

The standard three function roof mounted digital clock, all works perfectly.

Bodywise the car shows its low mileage with its excellent condition, no rust spots in the usual mk2 places under the headlights and arches etc.

The car has had paintwork over the years, and there have been two MOT welding repairs to the usual places on the inner wings (near the bulkhead) . There are no signs of any repairs elsewhere, such as sills, floorpans or boot floor etc.

Bear in mind the car is 40 years old so there are small marks commensurate with the age.

Mechanically the car is very good, it had a long period off the road from 2007 to very recently and as part of the recommissioning it has had the following items replaced..

Four new tyres
Complete exhaust system front to rear including downpipe.
Starter motor
Radiator
Battery
Fuel pump
Ignition coil
Brake servo
Brake master cylinder
All four brake rubber hoses
Front Road springs
Full engine service, all fluids, filters and spark plugs

At some point in its early life the car had the carburettor replaced with a Weber 32 IBF, as the original Ford VV Carbs were troublesome. This Weber has been rebuilt by a classic car specialist as it was suffering with standing for so long.

The car drives very well, recently completed a number of journeys of 80+ miles and it sits comfortably with modern traffic, and seems good on fuel.

Being a Ghia model they are much rarer than the surviving XR2 models with “how many left” claiming there are less than 20 on the roads, this example is something you can jump into, get to a Classic car show and be confident you’ll not see another one on display.

With the car being 40 yrs old this year, the road tax only becomes Historic/ free on application from April next year so I’ll not say it’s free tax yet, but it almost is, same goes for MOT exemption from next year, although I’d always recommend having them MOT’d for that extra piece of mind.

Although not shown in the pics, there is a parcel shelf for it but although it’s functional it has been “home repaired” by someone to fix the usual sagging shelf issues.

Current MOT is to April 2026.

Price £3995

Priced fairly based on the condition, if this was an XR2 you'd be talking £10k - £15k...

Collection only from Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5.
