Here we have our lovely 'fast road' Defender 90 for sale. The vast majority of the rebuild was completed for a client by my company, Alex Engineering in 2015/ 16 with no expense spared. It was sold soon after completion and the 2nd owner has done the majority of the 11000 miles on the clock. I purchased it from him in 2023 as part of my collection of Land Rovers. I have now decided its time to move it on due to lack of use. It has been a very reliable machine all that time.
The main talking points of the car are as follows;
- 3. 9 Rover v8 built by RPI (new engine as opposed to rebuilt)
- LT77 5-speed gearbox rebuilt by Ashcroft Transmissions
- Galvanised Chassis by Richards Chassis
- Exmoor trim interior including heated seats and front facing rear seats (all with belts)
- Air conditioning
- Remote battery cutoff and immobiliser
- 3 Years away from being tax, MOT, and ULEZ exempt (depending on the next Budget)
- 14CUX engine management
Sadly we do not have the information to show the engine was supplied by Rpi although we have no doubt the stated suppliers are correct. The gearbox and transfer box were supplied by Ashcroft Transmissions. The mileage was reset when it was restored so the majority of the car is very low mileage, bar a few items carried over from its previous life. It has a slight spot of corrosion on the top of the bulkhead and the side of one of the seat bases has some cracking due to the sunlight.
Probably its worst issue is it has unfortunately been categorised as a cat C write off in its previous life. Very little of the original vehicle remains so it could be said this has no impact on its current state.
We believe the price is fair given the money and time spent on it but feel free to get in contact regarding price, viewings and any questions you may have. From someone who has driven all the iterations of Defenders, this is one of the best for everyday use. Anti-roll bars and road tyres makes it handle very well on country roads and about town. The Rover v8 and 5 speed box provides enough grunt for any situation and enough gears to cruse comfortably at motorway speeds. It sounds lovely, goes well, and is a real head turner. Its safe to say if we had the option to keep the car we definitely would, however, space and other projects means its time for someone else to enjoy it.
