This is an Audi A8 "S". The car did not come off the production line as an "S8". It came out as an A8 and was then officially modified by Audi Sport to become an "S", predating the factory produced S8 cars. This makes it extremely rare and sometimes difficult to get parts for, but well worth it.
Mechanically the car is in very good condition. It has never let me down in all the years I have owned it. I personally service and maintain it. A couple of pics show the camebelt and associated parts replacement done a couple of years ago. There is now, however, an oil leak that whilst isn't bad enough to fail an MOT is bad enough to warrant repairing sooner rather than later, especially if you like the sound of the V8 when the taps are fully open! At low rev cruising hardly any oil, if any, comes out at all.
The bodywork I would say is average condition for its age. Lacqeur is peeling away from the paint in a few places and there are a few small dinks caused by careless people in car parks since moving to Kent, "the land of blind old fogies"!
Electrically everything except the sunroof works. I believe that is just a corroded roof switch as it's a recent failure that I'm not bothered about.
I will add details to the description as soon as I can. I'm not currently at home with the vehicle. Unfortunately due to illness I am no longer able to maintain/ service the car and am very very reluctantly selling it. I love the understated appearance of the car. It is suprisingly agile and faster than most things on the road even though it is an old girl. It is supremely comfortable and effortless to drive. Driven conservatively it returns 40mpg on long distance runs but will drop to 8 or 9mpg in traffic laden towns.
Almost everywhere I drive it the car gets similar attention to that of my 56 year old Rover. People love to see the original AudiS8 and are very impressed when I tell them this car predates even those. This really is Genesis. They almost always ask for me to pull away with my foot down and the noise it makes is very rewarding. Just keep an eye on the speedo as it really is a very quick old land barge.
