Description
Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet W180 II Ponton, 22/ 05/ 1957.
On behalf of a friend, due to health issues, I am selling this stunning Cabriolet. Mercedes‑Benz produced 2, 178 units between 1956 and 1957.
Completely restored from 2012 to 2022, with matching numbers and colours, it has covered 300 km since restoration and is therefore in break-in mode.
The car is ASI registered with the Certificate of Historical Relevance, its Identity Card and the GOLD PLATE No. 56574 dated 02/ 05/ 2022 at the highest level. It is also registered in the Italian Mercedes-Benz Historic Register and has a Mercedes Certificate of Origin. The Ministerial Inspection expires on 31/ 10/ 2027.
The car was completely dismantled, all metal parts treated and repainted by a renowned German body shop in the original Grafit Grau DB190 colour. All mechanical parts were completely replaced, retaining only the original external structures from the Official Mercedes‑Benz ANTARES dealership and workshop in Parma, Italy. The original Rosso Cartier 641/ TF723 full leather interior and the original Schwarz 872 double fabric hood were redone by a renowned Italian restorer. All trim and the light walnut burl dashboard were restored to their original splendour by the Como-based restorer Virginio Brambilla.
The car features the following period-specific optional equipment:
1) fixed two-seater rear bench;
2) reclining driver’s seat;
3) pedal-operated windscreen washer;
4) ivory-coloured steering wheel;
5) whitewall tyres;
6) full leather interior in Cartier Red 641/ TF723;
7) dashboard and trim in light Italian walnut burl wood;
8) portable cord lamp with fabric case;
9) German-language spare-parts catalogue.
The car comes with an original spare wheel, user manual and jack. All photographic documentation of the restoration and some of the accounting documentation for the work carried out are included.
The car has a certified market value and, as shown in the photos, is in concours d’elegance condition. It is ready for long-distance travel. Unobtainable in this condition, I am addressing collectors and/ or enthusiasts of the marque. Therefore, dreamers, time-wasters and photo-collectors are asked not to contact me.
