Description

Brief History
The Land Rover “Perentie” was built by Jaguar Land Rover in Australia specifically for the Military, to replace the aging Series Land Rovers. They came in 4x4 and 6x6 variants.

The main difference is that the vehicle has a specific heavy duty galvanised chassis which was longer than the standard, this was to enable ‘tie down” eyes for air transport and the stowage of the spare wheel under the rear body. They were also fitted with an Isuzu 4BD1 diesel engine as standard, with the Turbo version standard equipment for the 6x6 version.

This particular Perentie has fitted the 3. 9 Turbo Diesel engine usually reserved for the 6x6,
this enables a very pleasant drive and returns circa 29 mpg on a run. This is paired with the Land Rover LT85 5 speed gearbox rather than the standard LT95.
A few pictures are from the Summer when the Perentie had a cherished number.
Fresh MOT 20th October 2025 – no advisories.

Mileage
The currently fitted Tachometer at the last MOT shows 200, 243 miles.

The previous owner upgraded the vehicles dashboard to the more up to date PUMA style and the currently installed Tacho is from the donor vehicle. This caused the recorded mileage to jump to 193, 585 in July 2019.

Reference to the MOT in July 2018 shows the distance travelled at 87, 170km or 54, 164 miles and we have travelled 6658 miles since then. I would suggest that approx. 61, 000 is as accurate as we can get to an accurate mileage.

The entire vehicle has been completely rewired from scratch with all circuits being individually fused via new fused boxes. I will cover leisure wiring later on. During the rewire most components were also replaced:

All standard exterior lights
Wiper motor and linkages
All standard gauges, I will cover the speedo later.
All lighting switchgear on the steering column and ignition switch
The standard windscreen replaced with a heated version.

Additional gauges have been added for Volts and Revs in the centre console, along with an oil pressure gauge which has not yet been connected. The plan is to change this for something else. These gauges are from Little Devil.

The new main starter battery has been re-sited into a side locker and isolated with a key operated switch in front of the passenger seat.

A new radio with pop out screen and Apple Play et

Interior & Leisure use
The inside of the vehicle has been soundproofed and insulated wherever possible. This includes the inside of the hard top at the rear, floors and front seat boxes and footwells.

At the rear the passenger side of the hardtop has an opening and lockable side window, this opens out the area that is covered by the awning.

At the front the seat have been recovered and new inertia reel seat belts fitted

The sub-woofer for the radio sits beneath the centre console.

New speakers are fitted under the dash at the front.

New additional speakers at the rear

Steering Wheel is Momo and removable for security.

The main and centre dash are from Raptor Engineering to allow fitment of additional switches, charging points and dials.

Led (Red) lights are fitted under the dash and the interior light is from Mud Stuff and can be red or white.

Sun Visors are Mud Stuff and have pockets for maps/ tickets etc

Because of the pop top there is a shelf above the windscreen which has additional charging points and the CB Radio, as well as additional storage.

At the rear, just inside of the rear door on both sides are lockable steel cabinets.

On the floor behind the bulkhead there is a very heavy-duty large gun drawer, ideal for keeping laptops and camera gear etc safe.

With a smaller footprint, a further steel cabinet sits on top of the gun safe, this house leisure batteries and further storage.

There is a fold down table/ food prep area on the inside of the rear door.

On the right there is a small stainless-steel sink with a mixer tap and a draining board/ food prep area, with storage underneath.

Fresh water is supplied from a Fiamma 65 litre tank under the rear of the vehicle, with a water level gauge near to the sink.

There is a small grey water tank with a tap for the drain. This could easily be increased in size if needed.

Hot water is provided by an insulated cylinder in one of the compartments on the driver’s side. Power is provided either from mains hook up, or via a 12v supply when driving.

The cabinet to the right of the rear door contains the water pump, related pipework and expansion tank, along with storage.

The rear cabinet on the left contains the leisure electrics.

Isolated feed from the Austrian made 200w of Solar Panels on the roof, there is room for a further panel if needed.

A voltronic 3 way mains/ battery/ solar controller. All of the 12v leisure facilities are supplied separately and fused from here. There is a separate switch panel in the rear for the 12 v circuits.

An inverter is supplied from the leisure batteries. For safety the 240v supply either from the inverter or from the mains supply can be switched via a double pole isolator.

There is a single 240v light in the rear and a double plug socket with usb chargers. A further single socket supplies the water heater. Plenty of room for expansion if needed.

The heater control panel is near to the switch panel in the rear.

Heating is provided by a Eberspaecher Diesel heater than is fitted under the passenger seat, along with an extra fuel tank. Warm air is provided to rear of the vehicle and to vents at the front.

We also use Eberspaecher Easy Web to control the heating via a phone app, this way it can be controlled from anywhere and can be used to warm the vehicle before using it is cold weather.

The heater is run from the second fuel tank which also serves as a reserve tank. There is a pump that can transfer fuel to the main tank. Gauge are provided for each of the tanks.

Body and Paint
Please bear in mind that this is a Land Rover that had been in Military Service, the body work is not pristine. The previous owner had a respray in a dark grey.
