Description
The XJ6 was Jaguar’s major refresh in 1968 for its upper-class saloon range and, moreover, a real coup, built in three series for about 25 years. Our XJ is a very late example of the first series from 1973. Many of these cars were worn out in the 1980s and, due to modest value increases, received too little care.
Here the XJ on offer stands out. The car was used by its owner as a daily driver for many years, just over 30 years ago. In the early 2010s he began the restoration with the refurbishment of the bodywork (floor panels, jack points, inner rear wheel arches, spare wheel well and sills) and the full repaint. The bodywork was finished off with cavity sealing by Mike Sander Fett. The engine was completely dismantled and rebuilt. Power was increased as an upgrade with a third-series cylinder head and larger valves. The original differential was replaced with an LSD (Limited Slip Differential). Tyres size 215/ 65 are registered, which are easier and cheaper to source today.
The interior was also renewed. Since completion of the restoration in 2014 the Jaguar has covered just under 6, 215 miles under the owner.
The manual gearbox with overdrive was then a fairly rare feature (only about 15% of vehicles) and is fully functional. As an extra, the Jaguar has a detachable trailer hitch.
This XJ6 is a collectible car because... It has been meticulously restored, it has been driven little since, and it has been owned by a single owner for many years. The car is here in Bad Essen and ready for a test drive.
