Description
The XJ6 was Jaguar’s major renewal of the upper-class saloon range in 1968 and also a big success, built in three series for around 25 years.
Our XJ is a very late example of the first series from 1973.
Many of these cars wore out in the 1980s and, due to only modest value appreciation, received too little care.
Here the XJ on offer stands out. The car was used by the owner as a daily driver for many years, just over 30 years ago.
In the early 2010s he began the restoration with bodywork refurbishment (floor panels, jack mounts, inner rear wheel arches, spare wheel well and sills) and the complete repaint. The bodywork work was finished with cavity sealing by Mike Sander Fett.
The engine was completely dismantled and rebuilt. As an upgrade, power was increased with a third-series cylinder head and larger valves.
The original differential was replaced with an LSD (Limited Slip Differential).
Fitted tyres are 215/ 65, which are easier and cheaper to source today.
The interior has also been renewed.
Since completion of the restoration in 2014 the Jaguar has covered barely 10, 000 kilometres with the owner.
The manual gearbox with overdrive was a fairly rare feature at the time (only about 15% of cars) and is fully functional.
As an extra, the Jaguar has a detachable tow hitch.
This XJ6 is a collectable car because....
- It has been meticulously restored
- It has been driven little since then
- It has been with one owner for many years
- The car is here in Bad Essen ready for a test drive.
