Description
Great running & driving well prepared 1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 Record Monza Zagato - ready to go!
• Chassis: 546440. Supplied with matching numbers Abarth 750cc engine. See photo extract of original Abarth factory record. Correct untampered engine stampings and Mille Miglia tufrided crank (with original exhaust, distributor, fuel pump, radiator, carb, Abarth air filter etc)
• Currently fitted with Fiat 850 Berlina 903cc (Tipo 100G) 1. 0-Liter race engine built by Paul & Bob Swanson (PBS) the US Fiat race engine “gurus”. Based on Fiat 850cc engine. JO/ EL Engineering intake, ribbed valve cover, PBS finned sump, twin-choke Weber carburetor rebuilt prior to my purchase which included a valve adjustment. Original fuel tank. New electric fuel pump and pressure regulator just fitted. It has just been serviced and compression reduced to ensure it is road tractable (using an OT head). Great compression. New custom made ceramic coated exhaust
• Original Abarth four-Speed Manual Transaxle (plus spare transaxle)
• Vehicle comes with a third engine – a PBS built race engine marked “new” and I believe unused but of unknown spec. I would suggest it be stripped and inspected before use (same for the original Abarth engine)
• Cross-Drilled Front Disc Brakes, original drum rear
• Mid-mounted underbody auxiliary radiator
• Rear roll Cage, cloth seats and recent NASCAR clasp race harnesses. - New rubber floor covering
• Fire-Suppression System plumbed to engine bay
• Moon Eyes wheel discs (can be easily removed from Abarth steel wheels)
• US Vintage Racing Logbooks
• Other spares including new spare Perspex headlight covers, spare aluminium Record Monza rear bumpers, spare set of steel Abarth wheels
The car was sold to US and converted to a race car. The prior owner bought it in 1981 and used it in vintage races in California including Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, Riverside, Las Vegas, Phoenix Raceway and Monterey Historics
Purchased in 2022 - gone through it to make it roadworthy. Very light, powerful for the engine size - drives very well. Very usable and iconic car. UK registered - v5 in my name. Also gone over by experts at Middle Barton Garage with a service, new fuel lines and tank clean, brake adjust and flush, new master cylinder, replacement cylinder head (machined and matched to intake), gaskets and valves, flushed cooling system, lube of brakes/ king-pins, changed transaxle oil. I am sure Tony would be happy to speak to you about the car as would I
The car starts and drives very well. Excellent performance and very tractable. Great handling. Much improved performance over a standard 750 Record Monza
Older paintwork with marks and patina but presents well. I loved the ex-race car look and performance so decided to keep it as is with the patina reflecting its history. Excellent solid floor pan and excellent running gear. I would leave it as is although you have the choice of refitting the original factory engine
Introduced in October 1958, the Record Monza was a development of the 750 Zagato GT, based on the Fiat 600 floorpan with an aluminium coachwork by Zagato of Milan. It was the update to the similar Zagato “double bubble” incorporating a smooth roof, a single intake scoop on the rear decklid, and quarter windows in the sail panels. It was named in celebration of Abarth feat of endurance records at the Monza circuit in Italy
Tubular aluminium front and rear bumpers, faired-in headlights, Zagato pop-out door handles, a fender-mounted Raydyot style driver-side mirror, Record Monza badges on each side panel and an external electrical cutoff switch
Silver 12” Abarth wheels with recent and good 125SR12 Pirelli Cinturato CN54 tyres
Abarth steering wheel and original Jaeger instruments (modern replacement tach but comes with original too as well as a procomp race tach). Auxiliary VDO temperature gauge fitted under the dash
I would be happy to speak with genuine potential buyers. Walk around, driving and starting videos no Youtube if you search the above title.
Fantastic and rare car with great following that is fun to drive
£68, 500
No PX or resellers. Happy to talk if genuinely interested!
Only selling the car as I have already brought a dream project and need to reduce the size of my collection and concentrate on that. Abarth generally and the Record Monza specifically are increasing in popularity and value in light of the iconic cars they are, reflecting the genius that was Carlos Abarth with a global following in UK, EU, US and Japan
I also have an ex-race 1959 Abarth 750 Derivazione for sale in my other listing and a nut and bolt restored 1965 Abarth Simca long-nose that will be up for sale soon. Or a 68 mustang pro-touring if that is your thing!
