This is my pride and joy Ford Escort mk1 Cosworth YB turbo
I spent many years finding such a good example to add to my car collection
Very reluctant sale due to arthritic knee only
Probably the best example currently available having undergone a £ 50k refurbishment and total rebuild
I have recently added afew more pics showing the underside after requests and I can confirm the car is still for sale as of 20th January 2026 and I am open to offers
Done on an original GT shell which was fully seam welded with steel forest arches added
Was previously running a 1700cc cross flow engine on twin 40 Webbers and had as a rally car with RAC passport
As the shell was in such good condition it was then chosen for the complete Cosworth treatment with the 2000cc engine completely rebuilt by lee Marshall in 2015/ 6 with fully refurbished running gear and has only completed 2500 miles since
Specifications as follows
Cosworth YB RS500 thick walled cylinder block
Accralite YB turbo forged pistons
Genuine WRC multi layer headgasket with long head stud kit
High pressure oil pump and oil spray kit
A T35 Garrett turbo with larger internals and ball bearing kit fitted
It was then rolling road tuned to 413bhp running a max speed of 164mph

To harness this power the shell was fitted with a full safety devices roll cage
A fully refurbished baby atlas axle and quaife/ trans X LSD were added along with a fully reconditioned 2WD Cosworth T5 gearbox
Custom Squires 18t shafts with Bilstein grp 4 suspension all round
AP front calipers with Cosworth discs
Rear 4x4 Cosworth calipers with Cosworth discs and green stuff racing brake pads all round
Alloy fuel tank with swirl pot and motorsport fuelling set up
The cockpit is fully detailed with bucket seats and harnesses and Sparco steering wheel
Racetrack 2 disposal dash
Battery cut out kill switch
8x13 Competmotive alloys with 215/ 50/ R13 Kumbo tyres fitted
Although built to full rally/ race spec this car has only been used as a show car which is what I’ve used it for and Sunday lunches at select country pubs of course !
As such the ermine white paint is in great condition still along with 4x Cibie super Oscar’s spotlights on the front and period reversing light on the rear to complete the rally look
As mentioned I am only selling as I have on going problems with my left knee which makes changing gear uncomfortable though the slipper racing clutch is progressive and easy enough to use on the road easily
I really don’t think you could build this car from scratch now for less than £80k so my loss is your gain
If you are looking for the perfect ford escort to show or do the occasional rally or track day then I don’t think you need to look any further.
