This is my father's Subaru Legacy Spec B, the one with the 3 litre flat 6 and Bilstein suspension like some kind of Porsche estate! He has recently moved on to a newer Subaru Outback and I had been hoping I could keep this in the family, but sense has prevailed as it would be a fourth car in my family and so we are going to have to let it go.
It is heart breaking to do so as it has been my dad’s car for 16 years, so one owner other than the supplying garage as they ran it as a demonstrator, and it has been used constantly and steadily, with every service performed by a Subaru specialist who has been looking after our cars for 20 years. It has done 5-6000 miles every year with the same use cycle most weeks other than some occasional longer trips. Dad is the kind of guy who just gets things done, so it has always had the best treatment when it has been needed. You’ll notice it has Prodrive GT1 wheels on and this is because the originals have winter tyres mounted and both sets have quite recent Goodyear tyres as he always puts on quality rubber. The original wheels and winter tyres will be included in the sale.
It drives brilliantly as they all do, with a really sure footed feel from the Bilsteins and the engine really likes a work out as it has a variable cam system part developed by Porsche and does have a similar feel in the power delivery. A truly great drivers car, but with a load of practicality thrown in. This one is the 5 speed auto with a black leather interior and the DVD sat nav unit. It is not without its little issues as it has never changed hands and so has never been tarted up. We have decided to sell it as it is to show it is an honest car at a lower price then we would ultimately want, so you can tackle the few issues however you might like. There are some scrapes to the bumpers from car parks as well as some wear to the outer bolster of the drivers seat. It is mechanically really solid with the perfect history and there is no underside rust other than usual the surface covering of a car this age and certainly is not plagued by the rust issue this generation are sometimes known or. It has been garaged its whole life and its mileage is under the average, so it’s likely the best example around from a core perspective even if the bodywork is not as good as it could be. The Prodrive wheels are in good condition as shown in the pics, but the original wheels are probably in need of a refurb as they have only seen winters.
If no one is interested in it in this condition then we will get the bodywork sorted out and list it properly at a higher price, so if you are the kind of person to like doing bits and bobs to your car then this could be a good opportunity to get a really solid car for a great price. I do feel it’s a unicorn car in some ways having had a single enthusiast owner who has only ever had Subarus with such a low mileage for the age, but with regular and steady use. If I had the room to keep it I really would!
