Description
Only two owners, present owner since 2007. Bought new in 1998 by titled lady, Baroness (X) serviced by Stratstones of Harrogate to 2007 when sold to present owner on 60, 000 miles. Vehicle used for just one year then due to overseas postings stored in heated hangar on USAAF airbase from 2008 until 2017. Car then recommissioned by Dave Edney, Classic Car Specialist, Wiltshire assisted by U. K. leading BMW 8 series specialist, Munich Motors of Wokingham. Vehicle serviced regularly since then by D&S Services, Wimbledon.
Major recommissioning works carried out: all suspension components, springs, dampers, sub frames removed, replaced or refurbished as necessary, all brake and fuel pipes removed and replaced with bespoke copper pipes. All brake callipers and discs removed, replaced or refurbished as necessary. All ball joints and gaiters refurbished and replaced. Other works include complete new wiper rod assembly, starter motor and power steering components. This model is fitted with two heavy duty batteries, both replaced with new batteries in 2024.
Upgrades: Five genuine Alpina 18” offset wheels fitted and complete bespoke stainless steel system, with lifetime guarantee, constructed and fitted by Danny at Longlife Exhausts, Wallington, Surrey in 2022. Sagging roof lining completely stripped out, including sunroof, and replaced with thicker luxury grade charcoal alcantra. The car is fitted with an appropriate 840 number plate which is included, the original “R” suffix number plates are also available. The car has no known faults, selling both my classic cars and Ducati due to age and loss of garage space. Of all the 8 (E31) series the 840 ci sports with the later 4. 4 litre V8 M62B44 engine is acknowledged as the best model, of which only 3000 were built and sold worldwide. With just 158 taxed and on the road in the U. K. today, the 840ci sports is rare and sought after. Following nikasil (cylinder lining) issues with the original 4. 0 V8 engine and slow sales with the 850 V12, BMW, concerned about reputational damage, poured money into the R & D for the new 4. 4 litre engine which was fitted from 1998 to the end of E31 production in 2000. This BMW M62B44 V8 engine is acknowledged as one of the best engines ever made, by any car manufacturer.
