Description
(UPDATE 24/ 02: If interested in the car, please send a message/ e-mail. I get lots of spam calls and don't answer unknown phone numbers)
1992 Audi 80 2. 0 E Automatic
- Petrol, fuel injected
- 115hp
- 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox with 'Sport' mode
- 6 Owners
- 1 key
- Tornado Red (non metallic)
- Comes with original service book, and various manuals
- Partial service history. Not much early history on the car other than a few service stamps and most of the old MOT certificates. I bought the car privately in September 2023 and have done lots to it and have all the paperwork of everything done. Last serviced in May 2025 which was a full service at a VW/ Audi independent specialist.
- MOT until 22nd May 2026 with only 1 advisory
- Car was parked up and put in dry storage around 2011 and put back on the road in May 2023 hence a big gap in the MOT history.
- In my ownership the car has had 4 new Uni Royal Rain Tyres, new radiator and thermostat, new ignition coil, cam belt and aux belt change, new spark plugs, some sections of the fuel line replaced, new discs and pads and caliper service, automatic gearbox service and various bits of the front suspension replaced. Most work undertaken at a VW/ Audi specialist.
- Mostly original paint. It looks like the front wheel arches and bonnet have been resprayed in the past. They have just started fading a little bit. No lacquer peel anywhere on the car, I think being dry stored for so long helped preserve it. There are a few small chips and scrapes to be expected with age but it is in pretty good shape overall. Not much in the way of rust, both the body and frame were galvanised from the factory.
- Original headliner which was perfect when I first got the car but it is just starting to go in one back corner. Fabric on door cards has creased a bit due to the break down of the glue over time.
- One of the wheel centre caps is missing. I can't find a suitable second hand replacement and new/ old stock ones are about £80 which I personally can't justify for a small piece of plastic.
- The original exhaust looks slightly wonky at the back as a few of the hangers have rusted away however it has been secured by my garage so it won't go anywhere. It might need replacing in the future.
- The wheels are not too bad. There are small amounts of corrosion and a few small dents but nothing too obvious.
- No wear on any of the seats and it does not have any cracked dash issues like old BMWs and VWs
- it has the original Blaupunkt radio however it is not in the best of shape. The tape player has stopped working, it has lost a few screen pixels and although the radio function technically does work you can't actually use it at the moment as the aerial is not currently connected. Someone has previously messed around with the wiring in the boot and I haven't got round to sorting it as I use a Bluetooth cigarette lighter adapter to listen to the radio. One of the rear speakers does not work but the rest do and the sound quality is surprisingly good for the age.
- The manual windows and sunroof function well. There is no air conditioning.
- No pixels lost in digital dash clock and all the dials and odometer work. The little secondary trip odometer does work but the reset button gets a bit sticky sometimes.
- The car generally runs quite well, only real issue is with the oil pressure sensor light and warning buzzer which is very temperamental. I have tried a few replacements but it still occasionally randomly comes on and goes off again. My garage has assured me the oil pressure is fine and there is not actually a problem with it. It is likely to be a wiring/ electrical issue.
Also sometimes the car gets a bit unhappy when the weather is cold/ damp almost like it has a little miss fire occasionally. It never does it above about 15 degrees so I just don't drive it when the weather is cold/ wet.
- A previous owner has fitted a battery cut off switch which is really useful for extra security and also for not draining the battery if the car is parked up for a while.
- The car lives outside under a cover and I try to take it out for a good run every couple of weeks. I don't drive it much at all in winter/ wet weather. Nearly all it's driving is during dry summer weather. It always starts first time even after being sat for 5 weeks.
- When the 4 new tyres were fitted earlier in the year the tyre fitting place tried to give the car a full alignment however there are a few bits of corrosion around some of the wheel alignment parts so they got the alignment as close as they could however the steering wheel sits a bit off centre.
- I have recently noticed that water has started pooling a bit in one of the rear footwells when it rains although I have no idea how it is getting in. This shouldn't cause any rust however as the body is galvanised.- UPDATE 23/ 02/ 26: The washer fluid pump has stopped working. The part looks to be around the £10 mark however it is quite difficult to get to so is not something I can do in my shared car park. I will take a bit of extra money off a deal to account for the buyer needing to get it repaired. The wipers themselves work without issue.
- I bought the car as I wanted my first classic but I did not want something too old and I wanted something with at least ABS and fuel injection. Plus Audi's of this age don't really rust that much compared to Mercs and BMWs. Additionally my dad had one in the same colour as a company car back in the day so I have always had a fondness for them.
- I bought the car on just under 78k miles and it is now on just over 85k so I have done around 7k in the 2 years or so I have owned it. I have a record of nearly every tank of fuel I have put in the car and I would say it averages high 20s to low 30s mpg. It has a 66L fuel tank and I normally fill it up when there is about a quarter left, that gets me roughly 350 ish miles per tank. It has only ever had premium E5 fuel as it cannot use E10 fuel.
- I have really enjoyed the owning the car and have taken it to a few shows. It always gets loads of looks and comments as there are not many cooking variants of the 80 left. It is a rare car at a car show. Plus it is very comfortable to drive long distances as the seats are very soft and the car had very soft suspension.
- The main reason for selling is I don't feel I use the car enough to justify the cost of keeping it but also due to having to keep it outside I don't feel like it is doing the car any good in the long term. It really needs to go to a home it can be kept indoors.
- I am open to reasonable offers.
- I am more than happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos. Viewing will need to be on a weekend. I am based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14.
Thank you for looking at my advert. I have tried to be as honest and upfront about the car as I can. It does have a few minor issues or areas needing improvement however overall it is a good solid car that can be driven daily with confidence. For it's age it is not in a bad condition and is fairly sorted mechanically. It will serve the next owner faithfully for many years to come.
- PLEASE NOTE: I am only willing to sell the car within the UK. I will not entertain any offers if you are trying to buy from outside the UK.
