Description

Built in 1964 for the ’64 season, this Triumph T120R Bonneville is a beautifully restored and highly correct example of one of the most important British motorcycles ever produced.
Provenance is secure, with dating certificate and V5 present, retaining its original registration number. Frame and engine numbers are correct and in keeping with the period.
This model was originally shipped to the Triumph Corporation in Baltimore, serving the east coast of the United States. It represents the more glamorous of the two specifications offered at the time, with subtle differences between UK and US market versions.
From 1963 onwards, all 650cc Triumphs adopted unit construction for the engine and transmission. This new design — quickly known as the unit construction motor — was a major step forward and became the standard Triumph format until production ended at Meriden in the 1980s.
For 1964, the Bonneville featured the distinctive Gold over Alaskan White fuel tank, complemented by matching mudguards with gold centre stripes — a striking and highly sought-after factory colour scheme that this bike retains.
The bike is fitted with twin Amal Monobloc carburettors, delivering strong, responsive performance, along with Western handlebars, suited to the terrain and period-correct for the model.
The motorcycle starts, runs and rides extremely well — smooth, eager and mechanically sorted — and is fully ready to be enjoyed. The 1964 T120R Bonneville represents Triumph at the height of its powers: fast, elegant, and beautifully engineered. This particular example is as close to an original machine as one can realistically get, without paying the significant premium demanded by untouched museum pieces.
On the road, the bike runs cleanly at speed with a wonderfully restrained but purposeful exhaust note. The unit-construction engine delivers smooth, confident power, making it both engaging and usable by modern standards.
Visually, it is exactly what a classic Triumph should be — perfectly balanced proportions, luminous paintwork, and period details that reward a closer look. It draws admiration whether parked or in motion.
This is a motorcycle equally at home:
in a serious collection
at classic bike shows
or enjoyed on relaxed weekend rides
A rare opportunity to own a correct, beautifully sorted Bonneville from one of Triumph’s most important years — a bike that combines historical significance with genuine riding pleasure.
