Description
1965 Austin Mini Cooper Mk1 998. Harold Radford upgrades. Car has strong Royal connections. For basic restoration. All complete running and driving. Surf blue with white roof
The car basic condition..... Very sound original Cooper. Still retains original bodyshell. Car has had many Radford upgrades carried out to include. Full webasto sunroof. De-seamed. Wood dash. Radford alloy wheels. Extra trim etc. It is assumed car went to Radford when it was new.
Very sound little car that has had welding done to floor and sills areas. Its okay and sound but could do with tidying up.
The car runs, moves and stops. (Water pump has a leak)
Brake master cylinder being repaired now. Very low ownership. Only 3 owners. Last family owner since 1971. Original colours were surf blue with white roof with matching blue/ silver interior. New seat covers just fitted. New carpet also with car. No door cards.
Unfortunately the car was hand painted in late 1970's the wrong shade of blue. The original colour can still be seen in many places.
Car had a new engine fitted in early 80's A correct Cooper engine was sourced and fitted by Hartwells of Oxford
Car History (This is where it gets interesting) Car was supplied new by Car Mart London Ltd in October 1965. Car Mart Ltd had a Royal warrant of appointment and supplied many new cars to the Royal household.
It is believed the car was ordered by HRH Princess Margaret & her then husband Lord Snowdon. They were known to be associated with luxury Minis. We believe the car went to Radford from new
The car was then used for the next 4 years by Lady Juliet Smith (Townsend) Lady Juliet was HRH Princess Margaret's Lady in waiting.
Lady Juliet is recorded as the 1st owner of the car
Car was sold in 1969 to another chap in central London and then sold again in 1971 to the family that has owned it till now. The car has been dry stored since 1983
Last picture is a library picture to show original colours
A very interesting little car with a very nice history that deserves to be restored to its original Radford condition and specification.
Viewing and inspection welcome
