Description
Want to own a classic shaped Jaguar with walnut dash? But want something practical? Then this x-type could be for you.
Often derided as a simple Mondeo with a body kit, it really does it a huge disservice. Instead it has the style queues and finesse of Jaguar with the reliability and practical elements of Ford.
This x-type is a great example of this marriage, benefiting from the legendarily reliable Ford duratec diesel engine but having the full Sovereign trim package with cream leather interior, walnut dash and walnut steering wheel. It also has the Ford heated windscreen which is incredibly efficient at dealing with any frost too (a proprietary Ford feature not available elsewhere).
The Sovereign trim also includes an amazing stereo system with CD changer in the boot, Bluetooth phone connectivity, satnav, DAB radio, heated seats and the better auto box.
The car has a few age related blemishes.
- The rear quarter light trims have blistered due to the internal wire stiffener being rusted. Should be an easy replacement.
- The rear bumper has a small scuff on it.
- The wheels have some curbing on the edges.
- The petrol cap remote wire is broken, but you can simply flip open the flap directly.
- The paint work has a few small blemishes.
- The underseal work has left a few spots on the outside of the paint and 2 spots on the rear of the drivers seat. I bought this car from its original owner in 2023, making it now only a 2 owner car. It came with excellent paperwork giving me lots of confidence, but not long after purchase I had to replace the power steering pump (I also did the water pump at the same time). Having sorted this out I was looking forward to many years of relaxed driving in this great car, unfortunately after 9 months it failed its MOT with a rotten rear subframe (a common fault on this age of x-type).
It was just too good to scrap so it went into storage with a local mechanic until we got a reconditioned subframe replacement arranged and had the other failures addressed. It has recently come back on to the road with a clean MOT lasting until October 2026. We have unfortunately had to move on, buying another family car in the meantime and so this car is now surplus to requirements.
I'd love it to go to a good home. Low mileage, had a very common late age fault fixed, now been sealed underneath too. It will provide many years of refined driving as well as all the practical features an estate brings. It really is a future classic that has the style and flourish of an older classic whilst still being able to comfortably eat up Motorway miles when needed.
