"Philomena"
Dr Josefine Scherzer bought her car from new from Autohaus Kaposi, Austria on 20th March 1964 for 40, 000 Austrian Schillings and called her affectionately "Philomena"
Philomena was always looked after in an underground garage in Klagenfurt, Austria, regularly serviced by Autohaus Kaposi, never having to endure the harsh winter weather.
Registration Number K103. 338, Philomena travelled throughout Austria, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia with Dr Scherzer behind the wheel, often accompanied by her Mother, who lived to be 101!
Dr Scherzer was a member of the OAMTC, The Austrian Automobile and Touring Club, and in 1999 received an Official Plaque and Pin Badge to commemorate this achievement.
Dr Scherzer lovingly cared for Philomena for 35 years when at 90 Years of age gifted her to her friends Malcolm and Diana Wetherell-Terry (her English "Daughter") on the 11th October 1999.
Philomena had covered 69, 714KM (43, 571 Miles) on that day!
When Philomena arrived in the UK on 15th October 1999, she had been driven by Malcolm from Klagenfurt through Austria, Germany, France, Luxembourg, and Belgium. She travelled over the North Sea to North Yorkshire. She was re-registered in the UK as SKH 585B on the 8th November 1999
Although now living in the UK, Philomena had been to England before on a few occasions with Dr Scherzer behind the wheel enjoying the countryside.
In 2002 Dr Scherzer flew from Klagenfurt to Shetland where she was proud and delighted to visit the Shetland Classic Motor Show and to 'show off' Philomena with the Wetherall-Terrys.
Sadly Dr Scherzer died after a fall in 2003 but I'm sure shes still loving the fact that Philomena is beleing her years!
Purchased by ourselves in 2020 Philomena remains in her original condition with her original manuals and paperwork. She has had the minimum of a few little tweaks here and there....... just a little bit of care that we think the 'old lady' deserves.
Paintwork in great condition, couple of little marks but she is in her 60s! Chrome again all good, not perfect but really good.
Mechanically also very good, pretty little engine and very clean…. bulletproof if looked after.
She was please to be shown at the NEC Classic Car Show in 2022 where she was also featured in a couple of magazines.
Lots of original supporting information/ history as shown.
Still looking hale and hearty Philomena is certainly treasured by us as part of our classic car collection.
She drives well (she had a new battery! Don’t we all in our 60s!) and has a bit of tinkering here and there…. new parcel shelf, restained original floor mats but thats about about it.
However, I’m now on a ‘1 in 1 out’ policy and it’s time for the old lady to have another adventure.
